LeBron James is rewriting NBA history in his 22nd NBA season at the age of 40 years old. His on-court performance is unparalleled while his achievements around the game keep getting even more impressive. This summer saw LeBron make history in another way as he and Bronny James became the first father-son duo in NBA history to be in the league simultaneously.

LeBron and Bronny are teammates on the Los Angeles Lakers, a genuinely surreal prospect given we have never seen it happen before. LeBron shared his thoughts on sharing a locker room with his son on the ‘GoJo and Golic Show.’

“It’s been everything and more. I can’t even imagine the opportunity to be there with him on a day-to-day basis. Through practices, film sessions, plane rides, and road trips. Obviously, from time to time, he goes down to the G League to work on his game and play in those games. But every moment he’s been around, it’s still surreal.”

“I go to the locker room to get ready, and I’m usually one of the first people there, and he’d fall in. I just look over like, wow. This is real. It’s been everything. It’s so rewarding for me to kinda show him the landscape, what it means to be a professional, how to approach it every day, and see him working. It’s very fulfilling.”

"What has the experience of being teammates with your son been like compared to what you thought it would be?" @mikegolicjr

LeBron also weighed in on his younger son, Bryce James’ decision to play college basketball at the University of Arizona instead of Ohio State.

“It’s always difficult and challenging because everyone believes that if I have kids, they’re automatically going to Ohio State.”

“Those guys down there (Arizona) recruited Bryce really hard. They believed in Bryce, in his maturation process, and where he was going as a basketball player and a young man. We’re excited for his next chapter when he gets down there. Hopefully, I don’t have to buy the gear. I have a lot of friends that are UofA alum and hopefully, they can give me some of their stuff.”

James legitimately might be two seasons away from playing alongside both his sons, as Bryce will be eligible for the NBA Draft in 2027 if he’s a one-and-done prospect like his elder brother. LeBron’s retirement season could see him be teammates with both his sons, an absolutely insane thought given we have never seen a father-son duo even play in the league at the same time.

Now, we might be two seasons away from one father having both his sons on the same team as him. It depends on how good Bryce ends up being. If he’s a better prospect than Bronny, the Lakers might not be in a position to use a late second-round pick to acquire him.

Much has been made about LeBron and Bronny being teammates, with many questioning if Bronny earned the opportunity on merit. Given the fact we’ve seen worse second-round picks including players who never play a single NBA minute, Bronny is a pretty inoffensive 53rd pick.

He’s developing in the G League, averaging 14.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists so far this season.

The impact of the James family on basketball is pretty incredible, especially because it was all built by one man at the helm. His time in the league is coming to an end, so it’s up to his sons to carry that basketball legacy forward in the NBA.
