The season may be over for NBA superstar Kevin Durant, but it doesn’t mean he’ll take a break from defending his legacy against the fans. On X today, the Phoenix Suns veteran got into one of his typical engagements with the NBA community, where he defended his career against various critics.

It all began when one fan, named Hana, argued that Durant’s trajectory since leaving the Warriors has been a major disappointment. Durant responded right away and asked the fans to debate, which started a long chain of replies from the basketball legend.

“I haven’t done much is just an opinion not based on facts. Once again, your statement is talking about me as an individual, right? Because you can’t talk about my teams without talking about everybody else as well, so without them being involved in the convo,” said Durant to the fan, who argued that he would have won more titles if he stayed in Golden State. “It comes down to just me. I’ve laid out what I’ve done. If u wanna talk about basketball as a team sport, those are two separate things.”

In another reply, Durant went on to list his stats, achievements, and accolades since his move from the Golden State Warriors, shutting down any argument that his career has been anything but successful.

“All-Stars, 50/40/90, All-NBA. Efficient buckets, brother. I also got a career-high assist one year. Hit 30k points, won a couple of Olympic golds and MVPs…what a career, and I’m still going. I love my life,” wrote Durant.

Durant didn’t stop there. He was replying to his critics one by one, refusing to back down or give up any ground in the comments. Even as fans began to troll Durant for needlessly replying to fans on social media, he fired back with a solid defense.

“I’m minding my business, a guy sends a random tweet about how he doesn’t like my career,” wrote Durant in a snappy reply. “I respond, saying I disagree, but I’m the insecure one? Someone, please, explain this logic to me. In my mind, the guy who hit me unprovoked is insecure… correct me if I’m wrong.”

This behavior isn’t new for Kevin Durant. Since his infamous decision to join the Warriors in 2016, he’s been clashing with the fans over discussions relating to his career, his legacy, and NBA coverage in the modern day.

While joining the Warriors was Durant’s most controversial and hated career move, it was also the place he should have stayed after three straight Finals appearances. Since his departure in 2019, he hasn’t accomplished much in the playoffs, winning just a couple of series over the past five years.

Now, as a member of the Phoenix Suns, Durant is preparing to move again after another underwhelming season. As much as he might deny it, KD’s career took a downward turn ever since leaving the Warriors, and his legacy might never recover if he fails to win another title.

Regardless of what happens next, Kevin is already secured in his career, and he has no regrets over how it turned out. He’s already one of the NBA’s all-time greats, and with averages of 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game last season, he’s still going strong as one of the top scorers in the game.
