The San Antonio Spurs are coming off a 127-113 victory against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night. Behind another dominant display by Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs improved to 58-18 on the season, asserting their status as one of the best teams in the NBA.

As things stand, the second-ranked San Antonio Spurs are set to make an appearance in the playoffs, a first for Victor Wembanyama after three years in the NBA. While the lack of experience would typically reduce San Antonio’s chances of contending for the title, Wembanyama appeared far more confident during his postgame interview.

“We don’t have experience, right? Screw it,” Wembanyama stated. “That’s all we’ve got. We’re not going to play any differently because it is this way. We’re still going to play 100% and try to win this championship. Screw it.”

Victor Wembanyama’s comment may strike many as cavalier, but for the most part, it reflects the utmost confidence the superstar has in his team.

The Spurs have proven themselves as a genuine title threat this season. Apart from Wembanyama’s MVP-caliber performances, San Antonio has seen some scintillating displays from players like De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, and many others.

Given their dominance against the top teams in the NBA this season, it is hard to overlook San Antonio’s chances. With Wembanyama also taking a more aggressive approach to closing out the regular season, the Spurs’ big man may be gearing up for the playoffs.

Victor Wembanyama Cares About Winning MVP

While Victor Wembanyama’s performances have been vital in helping San Antonio emerge as a title contender, the big man has been driven to cement his status as an MVP candidate. Given how vocal he has been about making his case, it is apparent that he cares about winning.

In a recent interview with Scott Van Pelt, the superstar shared why he cared about winning the MVP award and earning recognition as the best in the NBA.

“I do care deeply about it,” Wembanyama stated. “All of the greats and the best players of all time have fought and grabbed everything they could grab early on in their careers. If I want to make my spot among the greats, I gotta try to not miss any occasion to put my name up there.”

At 22, Wembanyama has already taken the league by storm. While already positioning himself as the best defensive player in the league, the Spurs’ big man firmly positions himself as an MVP candidate.

Coming off a 41-point outing against the Warriors, his fourth game of the season with 40+ points, Wembanyama has become the youngest player in NBA history to notch consecutive 40/15 games. It also marks the third time this season that he has recorded at least 40 points and 10 rebounds in less than 30 minutes.

Over the course of San Antonio’s latest 10-game winning streak, Victor Wembanyama has logged a monstrous 275 points, 132 rebounds, and 34 blocks. This firmly positions him alongside Shaquille O’Neal and Hakeem Olajuwon as the only players in NBA history to accomplish such a feat over 1o consecutive wins.

Despite his performances, Wembanyama is aware of the shortcomings in his game, as he stated:

“I would say sometimes, like I try to get some areas of my game to improve them, and I forget other areas. I would say it’s doing everything at the same time, all the time.”

Victor Wembanyama’s commitment to perfection may either drive him to greatness or render him vulnerable at some point in the future. But when assessing the trajectory the young superstar is on, it is more likely that the former will come to pass.

With averages of 24.7 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks per game this season, Wembanyama is truly one of a kind. With the big man currently emerging as the favorite to win the MVP award, it will be intriguing to see what he can showcase in the remaining six games of the season.
