New York Knicks Could Trade RJ Barrett This Summer After Impressive Season

It’s no secret that the New York Knicks have dangled former No. 3 overall pick RJ Barrett in trade talks before.

Now, according to Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype, the Knicks could take another look at trading him again as part of a package for a big-name star. Here’s what he said in the latest episode of the HoopsHype podcast:

“One of the things that have been noticeable with Thibodeau since the Josh Hart trade is the Knicks have gone with, more often than not, a closing lineup of Jalen Brunson, Immanuel Quickley, and Hart down the stretch of games with Quentin Grimes occasionally seeing minutes,” said Scotto. “Noticeably absent has been RJ Barrett. During the summer, Barrett was discussed in the Donovan Mitchell trade talks. Looking ahead, I expect his name to pop up again in trade talks if the Knicks are linked to any star player that hits the market.”

With RJ seeing a reduced role in New York, it makes sense to use him as part of a bigger move to bring in a star. With averages of 19.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game this season, Barrett has proven to be a valuable contributor, and his skills as a 3-and-D wing would be very useful for many teams across the league.

The question is, which stars would even be available for the Knicks this summer?

Can The Knicks Land A Superstar This Offseason?

With Donovan Mitchell and Kevin Durant officially off the board now, the Knicks will have to look elsewhere to find their next great franchise leader.

Could it be in Philadelphia, where Joel Embiid seems to be running out of patience with the 76ers? Could it be Damian Lillard, whose team is headed for the lottery for the second straight season? Could it be James Harden, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent in July?

At this point, it’s anyone’s guess when or who we can expect the next star to switch teams, but the Knicks are looking more attractive than ever as a landing spot for players.

With the team doing well and the players respecting the fans, the vibes couldn’t be better for the Knicks right now. But until they add a top 10 player to their roster, the Knicks may never have what they need to go all the way.
