Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson spoke with Kay Adams in a recent interview. Adams asked him how well he would do in the NBA, to which he responded that he could average about 13 points per game. While he called LeBron James his favorite player, Richardson claimed he could beat him in a dunk contest because James was now close to 40 years old.

“I think I would do pretty good. I feel like I would average a good 12-13 (PPG) in the NBA… I think I will win… (Favorite player) in the NBA? LeBron James. Right now? Yeah (I could beat him in a dunk contest) because he’s about to be 40, so I would agree.”

While Richardson does admire LeBron James, he isn’t going to be backing down to him. Of course, it would be ludicrous to suggest that Richardson could beat James in a dunk contest. While the clips above show that Richardson is a great athlete and can dunk the ball well, James is one of the best dunkers in NBA history.

While James may be close to 40, he hasn’t lost so much of athleticism that he cannot dunk the ball. He showed that he could still be a powerful, dominant slasher to the basket during the 2024 Paris Olympics. And Richardson would struggle to defeat him in a dunk contest of any kind.

Sometimes people forget about James’ dunking ability because he has never participated in a dunk contest. But considering he gets at least one fast break opportunity a game, fans should remember just how explosive James’ dunks can be, especially during a big-game situation.

Would LeBron James Do Well In The NFL?

Recently, Tom Brady, the GOAT in the NFL, spoke about which players from Team USA he would select to play in the offensive line of his NFL team. Brady picked LeBron James to play wide receiver, citing his scary combination of size, speed, and strength as why he would thrive in the position.

A few months ago, Jason Kelce, the Philadelphia Eagles legend, spoke about the kind of athlete James was, and how he could become the greatest red zone threat in the NFL with just one full offseason to train himself. James’ build really lends itself to that of a prime football player, especially in the offensive line.

James himself has spoken about getting offers to play in the NFL during the NBA’s lockout in 2011. There has been long-term interest on both sides for James to play in the NFL. But it never materialized.

James won’t regret his choice too much, as he is one of the greatest players in the history of basketball, and some might even argue that he is the GOAT in the sport. While football may have delivered him similar success, the global nature of basketball allowed James to become a superstar the world over with his success.
