Colby Covington, the former UFC Interim Welterweight Champion went on a longwinded rant about LeBron James. Colby criticized James for being named the flagbearer for the American team at the Olympics, while he and Nike carried out poor labor practices in China, and refused to ‘bring back those jobs to America’.

“And in that same ceremony, you have Captain ‘I Hate America’ LeBron James, bestowed the honor of carrying the stars and stripes? When I heard that he was going to be the one carrying his country’s flag, I thought it was going to be for China.”

“What happened LeBron? Did you finally give equality and justice to all those children and women sowing your shoes? Did you bring those jobs back to the States? Or would that mess with your profit margin?”

This isn’t the first time Covington has gone out of his way to attack LeBron James. He did the same in 2020 when he called James a coward and slammed James’ association with China many times. In fact, Covington even claims that he tried confronting James at a game, but his security requested Covington not to say anything.

Colby Covington has made his politics and rhetoric part of his gimmick. He openly admitted to spewing venom against the country of Brazil as a desperate attempt to stay in the UFC, and since then, has made his persona about offensive comments and disrespecting people, so for him to take the low route against LeBron James is far from surprising.

Some fans even pointed out that these comments about LeBron James and the Olympics as a whole could be a way for him to revive his floundering UFC career, as he hasn’t been delivering on all his trash talks when the octagon door closes.

LeBron James Made Team USA Proud With His Performances

Regardless of what Colby Covington might say, LeBron James was the star on display for Team USA at the Olympics. In a team surrounded by All-Stars and superstars, LeBron James stood out, as he was the most consistent, and arguably their best player en route to Team USA winning the gold medal.

During the tournament, LeBron James averaged 14.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 8.5 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.3 blocks. His performances allowed him to earn the title of Olympic MVP, adding to his already incredible list of accomplishments.

Some people, like Stephon Marbury and Stephen A. Smith, have tried questioning James being named Olympic MVP, claiming that Stephen Curry should have been given the accolade. But Gilbert Arenas defended LeBron and rightfully pointed out that it was not a biased American panel that named him the MVP.

James will now try to carry this momentum forward with his USA Basketball teammate Anthony Davis, as the duo tries and salvage the Lakers next season and make a deep run in the playoffs. Their roster will make any kind of run difficult, but if both players are playing at their best, then they can compete at a high level.
