Paolo Banchero exploded onto the scene for the Orlando Magic in his rookie season, comfortably winning the Rookie Of The Year award. Banchero has been phenomenal, seemingly scoring with ease and fitting right into the NBA.

But while he will be on the Orlando Magic for the foreseeable future, he has a more intriguing decision to make regarding playing international basketball. Banchero has an Italian passport despite being born in the United States and, as such, could play for their basketball team. His agent spoke up on his potential dilemma.

“For a youngster like Paolo it is always good to have different options,” his agent Mike Miller said. “He would like to play for both national teams, but he knows very well he can’t do it. So, he will have to make a decision, but we don’t know when it will be.

“It could take two days or three months. At the moment we are not saying yes or no to the possibility of playing in the World Cup, it will never be a choice against one NT or the other. We will get in touch with Italy, we owe it to them.

“Paolo has had two meetings with Grant Hill for Team USA. He must ponder well the decision that will have an impact on the player’s next 15 to 20 years.”

As someone that averaged twenty points and seven rebounds during his rookie season, Banchero is more than the average prospect. He has all the makings of a superstar and as such, Team USA should do everything they can to get him to play for them, or he might become an issue in the future.

The Sky Is The Limit For Paolo Banchero

It feels like Paolo Banchero isn’t being appreciated enough, considering how elite his rookie season has been. The Magic star matched records initially set by LeBron James and Grant Hill in his rookie season. And for him to win Rookie Of The Year almost unanimously is another testament to his potential, whichever team he chooses will be getting a beast.

Paolo Banchero might end up getting overshadowed a bit in the hype that Victor Wembanyama is sure to get next season. But both national teams will be waiting with bated breath to see who he decides to play for next. Banchero’s future is an interesting situation for NBA fans to keep an eye on.
