- Clippers veteran Paul George heaps huge praise on Luka Doncic
- George says Luka is “next up” as the face of the league
- Luka has a chance to make history as an international legend
Mavericks star Luka Doncic has not yet proven anything in terms of accolades or achievements at the NBA level. Even still, respect for Luka’s game is deep across the NBA, and that extends to some of his biggest competitors as well.
“Luka [Doncic] is not next up, Luka is now,” said Paul George on ‘Podcast P’. “You knew Luka was going to be that guy, and he’s that guy now… He’s got a chance to be one of the best to ever do it.”

Luka, 24, is already considered one of the top players in the game after just five seasons. During the 2022-23 campaign, he had one of his best statistical runs yet with averages of 32.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 8 assists per game.
“With his size, his scoring ability, his playmaking, his IQ, his vision… we’re talking about being the biggest international player now,” said George. “That’s surpassing GOATs like Dirk Nowitzki, Tony Parker, Hakeem… he’s got the chance to be the biggest international guy.”
What Doncic has done in just a few short years is undeniably impressive, and it puts him on pace to surpass some of the game’s most accomplished legends. But even as a 4x All-Star and 4x All-NBA player, the young Doncic still has some hurdles to overcome if he wants to claim the title of international GOAT.
Guys like Dirk, Parker, and Hakeem each have at least one championship to their name, while Luka only has a lone Conference Finals appearance to show for his career so far. As good as Doncic is, and can be, he will never become the international GOAT in the eyes of the critics if he cannot get the Mavericks over the hump as a championship team.
Luka Is On The Clock After Disappointing Season
After a run to the Western Conference Finals, fans were expecting big things from the Mavericks before they lost Jalen Brunson months later. Thankfully, the Mavs were able to find some more help, but that didn’t come until February in the form of Kyrie Irving.
Together, Luka and Irving went just 5-11 together and failed to get Dallas to qualify for the play-in tournament. Now, the Mavericks will be tasked to somehow be better despite having almost exactly the same roster as before.
In truth, this upcoming campaign is the ultimate test for Doncic and his ability to lead. If he cannot pull this team out of the gutter, and into a better situation, he may be better off leaving entirely for somewhere better-equipped to handle his game.
