If you thought it was bad being a Detroit Pistons fan last season when they finished with a 17-65 record and fell to No. 4 in the 2023 NBA Draft, it’s gotten much worse this season.

The Pistons just fell to their 25th loss against the Utah Jazz, who had an injury report that ruled out most of their rotation, including some rookies. Despite that, the Pistons couldn’t win and fans rained down chants of ‘Sell the team’ after this loss.

The Pistons played a strong lineup with Jalen Duren being the biggest absence. Otherwise, Cade Cunningham, Bojan Bogdanovic, and Jaden Ivey were starting the game. Despite 20+ points from Ivey, Cade, and Marvin Bagley III, the Pistons got blown away by a very depleted Jazz roster.

Utah could only run a 9-man rotation and caused a lot of damage. Kelly Olynyk led them in scoring with 27 points but had five other teammates that reached double-digits. This includes Simone Fontecchio, John Collins, Collin Sexton, Kris Dunn, and Ochai Agbaji off the bench.

Can The Pistons Save Themselves From Making History?

The Pistons could end 2023 with the new record for the longest losing streak in NBA history. They’re currently at No. 4 all-time for the longest streak with 25 losses. They face the Nets on 23 December and if they lose there, they join a three-way tie for the second-longest losing streak in NBA history with 26 losses. The other two teams they’ll be tied with are the post-LeBron 2010 Cavaliers and the ‘Trust The Process’ 2014 76ers.

If the Pistons lose their 26th consecutive game, they become the holders of the longest single-season losing streak in NBA history. The all-time losing streak record is held by the ‘Trust The Process’ 76ers, who ended the 2015 season with 10 losses and started the next year with an 0-18 record, losing 28 consecutive NBA games. The Pistons are on the precipice of breaking that record, especially with their upcoming fixtures.

The Pistons will face the Brooklyn Nets in their next two games, with two losses giving them sole possession of the second-longest losing streak of all time and the longest losing streak within the same season. They’ll then have to beat the Boston Celtics to avoid tying the 76ers’ 28-game losing streak. If they lose these three games, their 30 December matchup with the Raptors could be a must-watch, as a loss there means the Pistons will have lost their 29th straight and made the kind of history no one wants to make.

You can’t even tell them to blow up the roster because it looks better on paper than on the court. They can’t fire their coach either after they gave Monty Williams one of the biggest contracts in the history of coaching. They’re in big trouble and need to go all-out to avoid making such shameful history.
