In a proposed trade by Zach Buckley from Bleacher Report, the Los Angeles Lakers would acquire Jerami Grant and Duop Reath from the Portland Trail Blazers, sending D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt, Jalen Hood-Schifino, a 2029 first-round pick, and a 2025 second-round pick (via the Clippers) to Portland.

The Lakers, who have had a relatively quiet offseason, could see this move as a significant upgrade. Jerami Grant, who averaged 21.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game last season while shooting an impressive 45.1% from the field and 40.2% from three-point range, would add both offensive firepower and defensive versatility.

Grant’s stats, while somewhat inflated by playing for a struggling team, indicate that he could thrive in a more defined role alongside stars like LeBron James and Anthony Davis. As a third or fourth scoring option, depending on Austin Reaves‘ development, Grant could increase his efficiency and contribute more defensively, solidifying the Lakers’ chances of contending for a title.

Adding Reath to the mix could also be a strategic move for the Lakers. As a 27-year-old rookie last season, Reath showcased his ability to stretch the floor and protect the rim, making him a potential candidate to back up Anthony Davis at the center position. His unique skill set could provide the Lakers with additional depth and flexibility in their rotation.

For the Trail Blazers, this trade would signal a continued commitment to rebuilding in the post-Damian Lillard era. While D’Angelo Russell’s expiring $18.7 million contract may not hold long-term value, the acquisition of Jarred Vanderbilt could give Portland a defensive anchor to pair with their young core of Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe.

Jalen Hood-Schifino, the Lakers’ first-round pick from the previous draft, could also be a valuable piece in Portland’s future plans, offering potential as a young, developing talent.

Additionally, the inclusion of a 2029 first-round pick and a 2025 second-round pick would provide the Portland Trail Blazers with further assets to aid in their rebuild, helping them to accumulate the necessary pieces for a brighter future.

This proposed trade offers both teams an opportunity to address their respective needs: the Los Angeles Lakers strengthen their championship aspirations with the addition of a versatile scorer and defender, while the Blazers continue to build for the future with promising young players and valuable draft capital.
