Quinn Cook spoke to his former teammates Dwight Howard and DeMarcus Cousins on Howard’s ‘Above The Rim’ podcast. When discussing the 2008 and 2024 Team USA rosters, Cook noted that the 2024 Team USA roster was better because they had Stephen Curry over Dwyane Wade, and then he called Curry the best point guard of all time.

Dwight Howard: “Why this year’s team?”

Quinn Cook: “I got Steph [Curry].”

DH: “Steph is too small for Dwyane Wade. He was the real flash when he (had) the bald head.”

QC: “D-Wade don’t want no parts of Steph.”

DeMarcus Cousins: “This is the third-best shooting guard of all time.”

QC: “I’m talking about the number one point guard of all time.”

DC: “Over Magic [Johnson]?”

QC: “Yessir.”

Quinn Cook: "[Dwyane Wade] don’t want no parts of Steph [Curry].”

DeMarcus Cousins: “This is the 3rd best shooting guard of all time.”

QC: “I’m talking about the number 1 point guard of all time.”

DC: “Over Magic [Johnson]?”

Cook clearly holds Curry in high regard, as he believes that Curry is better than both Dwyane Wade and Magic Johnson. The two played together during Cook’s stint in Golden State, where he was a two-way player, and won an NBA championship thanks to Curry’s brilliant play.

Curry is considered one of the best players of all time, and the best point guard of his generation. It isn’t just his accolades, like his 4 NBA championship wins, 1 Finals MVP, 2 regular season MVPs, 10 All-Star selections, and 10 All-NBA selections. But also his impact on the game, with Curry being considered the greatest shooter of all time, and being responsible for the NBA becoming a three-point-oriented league.

Cook, along with Cousins and Howard, also spoke about their 2020 Los Angeles Lakers team that won the NBA championship in the Orlando bubble. They all expressed their frustrations over the team being broken up in the wake of their championship win and felt that they could have run it back the following year.

Is Stephen Curry Better Than Magic Johnson?

Stephen Curry has made an incredible impact on the NBA since his arrival. Unlike Magic Johnson, Curry was not a big guard coming into the league. There were a lot of doubts about his size, and his over-reliance on shooting three-pointers. But he has proven those critics wrong and established himself as an all-time great.

As for Magic Johnson, he was the first overall pick in the 1979 NBA Draft and was a hyped prospect coming into the league. At 6’7″, Magic was a massive point guard who could play other positions, and not be physically dominated in the NBA during its most grueling era.

Johnson isn’t shy of any accolades either, winning 5 NBA championships, 3 Finals MVPs, 3 regular season MVPs, 12 All-Star selections, and 10 All-NBA selections. Both players have a valid stake in the claim to be the greatest point guard of all time.

Curry’s advantage is that he is still playing in the NBA, and could surpass Magic Johnson for accolades. He would need two more NBA championships to surpass Johnson, which seems unlikely considering Curry’s age. But if he can match the number of championships between them, he can solidify his argument for being the best point guard of all time.
