The 2025 NBA season is shaping up to be one for the ages, especially after a trade deadline that sent shockwaves across every conference. In one of the most jaw-dropping moves, Luka Doncic joined forces with LeBron James in Los Angeles, creating a duo that combines the league’s premier playmaker with one of its all-time greats. Meanwhile, the Golden State Warriors retooled dramatically, pairing Stephen Curry with gritty two-way star Jimmy Butler.

These blockbuster moves have set the stage for a thrilling new era in the NBA, where elite pairings drive the conversation. But they’re not alone—duos like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard in Milwaukee and Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown in Boston continue to dominate. With new faces in new places and championship hopes on the line, we look closer at the best NBA duos entering the second half of the 2024-25 season.

1. LeBron James & Luka Doncic

This duo is simply unfair, even if they have one game in the bag in the season. LeBron James, even in Year 22, continues to defy age with averages of 24.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 9.0 assists per game, proving he’s still a top-tier star. Pairing him with Luka Doncic, a walking triple-double machine (28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, 7.8 assists), gives the Lakers an unstoppable combination of IQ, playmaking, and sheer offensive dominance.

Their chemistry will translate immediately. Luka can handle primary playmaking duties while LeBron chooses his spots to attack or facilitate. This pairing is set to torture defenses nightly. The pick-and-roll between these two? Teams might just have to hope for missed shots and it is up to Rob Pelinka to make the most of this duo by improving the roster around them this summer.

2. Stephen Curry & Jimmy Butler

The Warriors went bold with their midseason trade, and it might be paying off already. Stephen Curry (23.0 points, 6.1 assists, 39.2% from three) remains the league’s most dangerous shooter, and adding Jimmy Butler to the mix gives Golden State an edge they’ve missed in years. Butler’s two-way impact, with averages of 17.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and relentless defensive intensity, is a perfect complement to Curry’s brilliance.

This duo has a unique dynamic. Curry stretches defenses to their breaking point, while Butler thrives in chaos—slashing, drawing fouls, and locking down opposing stars. In crunch time, Butler will be a blessing for Curry. The Bay Area is back in championship contention.

3. Jayson Tatum & Jaylen Brown

Boston’s dynamic duo continues to prove they are just dominant. Jayson Tatum’s 26.8 points and 8.6 rebounds per game cement him as a top-five player, while Jaylen Brown’s 22.9 points and defensive prowess make him the ideal co-star. The Celtics’ wing tandem is relentless on both ends, capable of shutting down opponents and lighting up scoreboards.

The only question is whether they can take that next step again in the postseason, something they proved last year. With both players in their primes, this could be their year to win back-to-back championships. Tatum’s playmaking has improved, and Brown’s shot-creation gives them the versatility to match up with any team in the league.

4. Kevin Durant & Devin Booker

Pure scoring heaven, even if leadership and defense are lacking. Kevin Durant (26.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists) and Devin Booker (26.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, 6.6 assists) are arguably the most talented offensive pairing in the league. Their mid-range mastery is unmatched, with both players capable of scoring efficiently from all three levels.

Defenders might as well flip a coin—there’s no right choice when trying to stop them. Unfortunately, the Suns are not built for championship success because the roster around them is incomplete with regard to defenders, big men, and emotional leaders. Still, in terms of what they do on the court, Durant’s ability to shoot over any defender combined with Booker’s smooth handles and sharp passing makes this duo virtually unguardable.

5. Anthony Davis & Kyrie Irving

After the shocking Luka-for-AD trade, Dallas didn’t just stay afloat—they got even scarier. If Davis can return from the injury that he suffered in the first game with his new team, this duo can make noise. Anthony Davis (25.7 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks) anchors both ends of the court, while Kyrie Irving (24.1 points, 4.8 assists) brings unmatched creativity and elite scoring.

Together, they offer the Mavericks the perfect balance of interior dominance and perimeter flair. Of course, the question will be durability. AD and Kyrie have both battled injuries, but when healthy, they’re a devastating combo. If they stay on the court, Dallas is poised to make a legitimate run in the West, even if Doncic is gone forever.

6. Nikola Jokic & Jamal Murray

The reigning league MVP and his trusty sidekick are still a dynamic duo. Nikola Jokic (29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, 10.3 assists) is the engine that powers Denver, dishing no-look passes and hitting clutch shots. The Serbian is still the best player in the world in terms of pure impact and he seems to be getting better.

Jamal Murray, meanwhile, has struggled a little bit this season which is why this duo has fallen in terms of impact. Murray is averaging 20.4 points and 6.1 assists per game on only 36.8% from three, so he hasn’t hit the heights of others. Still, what makes them special is how seamlessly they complement one another and Jokic’s presence alone makes them top-six.

7. Giannis Antetokounmpo & Damian Lillard

Despite the team’s inconsistencies this season, this duo is perfect on the court. Giannis is as dominant as ever, putting up 31.8 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game while steamrolling his way to the rim. Damian Lillard brings his scoring prowess, averaging 25.5 points and 7.5 assists this season. Together, they’re an offensive powerhouse that strikes fear in the East.

What makes this duo special is their complementary skillsets. Giannis thrives in transition and attacking downhill, while Dame’s range extends to practically half-court. It’s pick your poison: let Giannis dunk all over you or watch Dame drain deep threes. Don’t count out what Milwaukee can do this season because of their elite duo.

8. Jalen Brunson & Karl-Anthony Towns

The Knicks shocked the NBA by trading for Karl-Anthony Towns before the season, pairing him with their budding star Jalen Brunson. Towns’ 24.0 points, 13.5 rebounds, and ability to stretch the floor at center (42.8% from three) give the Knicks the inside-out threat they’ve lacked. No doubt, Knicks fans are still celebrating the blockbuster trade that happened before the season.

Meanwhile, Brunson continues to thrive as the floor general and leader of the franchise, averaging 26.3 points and 7.5 assists, often carrying the Knicks in clutch moments. What makes this duo intriguing is their offensive versatility. Brunson can break down defenses with crafty drives, while Towns’ outside shooting opens up the paint for others. This duo could elevate the Knicks to serious contention in the East.

9. Donovan Mitchell & Darius Garland

The Cavs’ backcourt is one of the league’s most exciting and it has led to wins. Donovan Mitchell (24.0 points, 4.7 assists) is a bona fide star who has taken a step up in leadership, while Darius Garland’s craftiness and vision (21.9 points, 6.7 assists) make him the ideal playmaking counterpart.

Together, they form a duo that’s tough to guard and impossible to ignore. Cleveland’s success hinges on these two maintaining balance. Mitchell is the alpha scorer, but Garland’s ability to set the table keeps the offense flowing. The Cavaliers have NBA Finals aspirations and their duo (along with Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen) will be a major threat in the East.

10. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander & Jalen Williams

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a superstar who could be the frontrunner for MVP. His incredible season (32.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.0 assists) has established him as one of the league’s premier guards. Jalen Williams, a first-time All-Star this season, complements him perfectly with his all-around play, averaging 21.2 points and solid defense. This young Thunder duo has the potential to dominate for a decade.

Their synergy lies in their versatility. Shai can score from anywhere, while Williams provides steady shooting and perimeter defense. With Chet Holmgren yet to return from injury, the Thunder have a legitimate chance to make the NBA Finals.

11. Ja Morant & Jaren Jackson Jr.

Memphis still believes in their young core, and for good reason. Ja Morant (20.5 points, 7.5 assists) is still one of the most electrifying players in the league, with an unmatched ability to attack the rim. Jaren Jackson Jr., a heavy contender for Defensive Player of the Year, is averaging 23.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks, making him a nightmare on both ends.

Their chemistry is undeniable. Morant’s speed in transition and Jackson’s ability to stretch the floor or dominate inside make them a potent one-two punch. If Morant can stay focused off the court and stay healthy while Jackson continues to grow as a rebounder, the Grizzlies could be a force.

12. Victor Wembanyama & De’Aaron Fox

Victor Wembanyama’s second year has been nothing short of spectacular, with averages of 24.3 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 3.9 blocks already living up to the hype. Pairing him with the lightning-quick De’Aaron Fox (24.6 points, 6.3 assists) gives San Antonio one of the most dynamic duos in the league.

Fox’s ability to push the pace and Wemby’s unicorn skillset create a devastating pick-and-roll combination. With Wembanyama’s defensive presence and Fox’s clutch scoring, this duo could help the Spurs rise quickly in the West. They’re young, but their potential is limitless and they will likely be a threat for the top-five spot in due time.

13. James Harden & Norman Powell

The Clippers’ post-trade lineup has been surprisingly effective, thanks in part to James Harden’s ability to orchestrate the offense (21.3 points, 8.6 assists). Norman Powell (career-high 24.0 points) provides efficient scoring as a secondary option, thriving in catch-and-shoot opportunities while Kawhi Leonard still tries to get back to full health.

This duo’s impact lies in their balance. Harden’s vision and Powell’s off-ball movement make them a tough tandem to defend. However, the Clippers’ championship hopes hinge on Harden’s consistency, as his playoff struggles remain a question mark.

14. Tyrese Haliburton & Pascal Siakam

Indiana’s genius acquisition of Pascal Siakam last year gives Tyrese Haliburton a star partner to work with. Haliburton’s dazzling playmaking (17.8 points, 8.5 assists) elevates everyone around him, and Siakam’s versatility (20.7 points, 7.4 rebounds) adds a much-needed scoring punch.

Their fit is seamless. Siakam thrives in transition and half-court sets, while Haliburton’s court vision unlocks opportunities for everyone. If their defense can hold steady, this duo could lead the Pacers back into playoff contention after making the Eastern Conference Finals last year.

15. Anthony Edwards & Julius Randle

The Timberwolves would have easily had a top-10 duo in the NBA if the Towns trade didn’t happen. Anthony Edwards (27.2 points, 5.8 rebounds) has emerged as Minnesota’s franchise player and a top-10 player in the world but there are still growing pains with Julius Randle as his co-star.

While Edwards is the clear leader, Randle can still put up strong numbers (18.9 PPG, 7.2 RPG, 4.5 APG) although his fit alongside Rudy Gobert isn’t the best. The Timberwolves hope their duo can start pushing the team to more wins in the West because competition is sky-high at the moment.

16. Bam Adebayo & Tyler Herro

Bam Adebayo (16.4 points, 10.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists) continues to anchor the Miami Heat on both ends of the floor in the post-Jimmy Butler era. His versatility as a defensive stalwart and offensive playmaker complements first-time All-Star Tyler Herro’s scoring prowess (23.7 points, 5.6 rebounds). Together, they’ve kept Miami competitive despite roster changes.

Herro’s improved shot creation pairs well with Bam’s ability to run handoffs and screen for his sharpshooting guard. While this duo isn’t as flashy as others, their chemistry and adaptability ensure the Heat always have a fighting chance in the East.

17. Paolo Banchero & Franz Wagner

Even if injuries have derailed their seasons a little bit, Orlando’s young duo of Paolo Banchero (22.1 points, 7.2 rebounds) and Franz Wagner (25.0 points, 5.1 assists) is one of the league’s most dynamic forward tandems. Banchero’s size and skill allow him to dominate inside, while Wagner’s sharpshooting and playmaking offer balance.

What makes them special is their unselfishness and ability to play multiple positions. Both are improving on defense and gaining confidence as leaders. If they continue to develop, the Magic could soon transition from being a playoff team to a potential title contender.

18. Joel Embiid & Tyrese Maxey

Obviously, the only reason Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey are so low is because of the former’s inability to stay healthy. When looking at the best duos in the NBA, being available and reliable is something we factor in, and Embiid does not fit either criterion. However, we can’t knock them off too much.

Embiid is averaging 24.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game in 16 appearances while Maxey has carried a heavy load without his co-star healthy for most of the year. Maxey was an All-Star snub this season as he is averaging 28.1 points and 6.2 assists per game and doing his best to keep the 76ers afloat.

19. Alperen Sengun & Jalen Green

The Rockets have struck gold with Alperen Sengun and Jalen Green (with Amen Thompson being a shout-out). Sengun’s 19.0 points, 10.4 rebounds, and playmaking from the post give Houston a rare offensive hub, while Green (21.4 points) thrives as a high-flying scorer with endless potential.

Their contrasting styles work beautifully together. Sengun’s IQ and passing create opportunities for Green’s athleticism to shine. As their chemistry grows and their defensive consistency improves, this duo could lift the Rockets into very bright days.

20. Scottie Barnes & Brandon Ingram

Toronto’s gamble on Brandon Ingram could pay off in the future, pairing the player’s silky 22.2 points per game with Scottie Barnes’ 19.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, and defensive versatility. Together, they form a wing duo that can switch, score, and facilitate with ease.

While Barnes brings the all-around game, Ingram provides the shot creation the Raptors desperately need. If they can iron out the spacing issues and develop stronger off-ball chemistry, this duo could put Toronto back in the mix as an Eastern Conference threat.

21. Domantas Sabonis & DeMar DeRozan

Sacramento will miss De’Aaron Fox and they now have their best duo including Domantas Sabonis and DeMar DeRozan. DeRozan (21.5 points, 3.7 assists) brings a veteran scorer to complement Domantas Sabonis’ all-around game (20.5 points, 14.3 rebounds, 6.2 assists). Together, they form a duo that thrives in the midrange and keeps defenses on their toes.

Sabonis is a maestro in the high post, setting up DeRozan for his signature fadeaways and drives. While their style may not fit the modern “pace-and-space” mold, their reliability and IQ make Sacramento a dangerous team in crunch time.

22. Cade Cunningham & Jaden Ivey

Detroit’s future hinges on Cade Cunningham (25.5 points, 9.5 assists) and Jaden Ivey (17.6 points). Cunningham’s poise as a lead ball-handler and Ivey’s speed and scoring make for an exciting backcourt tandem.

While Ivey is still raw compared to Cade’s All-Star improvement, their potential is clear. Cade’s size and playmaking allow him to control the tempo, while Ivey’s explosiveness adds a dynamic edge. With just a few more seasons under their belt, this duo could lead the Pistons to very bright days ahead.

23. Zion Williamson & CJ McCollum

Zion Williamson (24.3 points, 7.6 rebounds) is a force of nature when healthy, but he hasn’t been. The big man isn’t reliable which means the Pelicans’ best duo has lost its prestige, especially with Brandon Ingram gone. CJ McCollum (22.2 points, 3.8 assists) brings the veteran savvy and shot creation New Orleans would hypothetically need.

However, the biggest question mark is health. Zion’s availability has been an ongoing issue, and the Pelicans’ success depends on him staying on the court. We don’t see a future for Zion in New Orleans and his ranking for a duo falls accordingly.

24. Trae Young & Jalen Johnson

Trae Young (23.5 points, 11.4 assists) remains one of the league’s most prolific offensive players, and Jalen Johnson has emerged as a breakout forward averaging 18.9 points and 10.0 rebounds. Together, they offer Atlanta a blend of playmaking and athleticism.

However, we might not see this duo for too long if the Hawks embrace a rebuild. Trae Young isn’t getting younger and could be moved for future assets this summer, and in terms of impact, his partnership with Johnson is promising but still unspectacular.

25. LaMelo Ball & Miles Bridges

LaMelo Ball (28.0 points, 7.4 assists) has solidified himself as Charlotte’s franchise player, and Miles Bridge (19.9 points, 7.8 rebounds) adds an athletic scoring threat. The Hornets’ offense flows through LaMelo’s vision, with Bridges thriving in transition and as a finisher.

The question is whether this pairing can lead to meaningful wins. While entertaining, their defensive lapses and lack of playoff experience leave doubts about their ability to take the next step.

26. Cam Thomas & Cameron Johnson

Cam Thomas (24.7 points) has emerged as one of the league’s best young scorers, and Cameron Johnson’s 19.3 points, efficient shooting, and defensive versatility make this pairing the centerpiece of Brooklyn’s rebuild.

Thomas thrives in isolation, while Johnson excels as a catch-and-shoot threat and off-ball mover. However, this duo’s ceiling feels capped without a true star to take the lead, and their defensive limitations could hold Brooklyn back in a competitive Eastern Conference.

27. Nikola Vucevic & Coby White

Nikola Vucevic (19.3 points, 10.3 rebounds) continues to be a steady presence for Chicago, while Coby White (18.7 points, 4.6 assists) has stepped into a bigger role as the Bulls’ primary playmaker. While not flashy, they give Chicago a reliable inside-outside punch.

The biggest concern for this pairing is defensive impact. Vucevic struggles against faster, more athletic bigs, and White is still learning how to control games at a high level. For now, they’re solid but unspectacular.

28. Lauri Markkanen & Collin Sexton

Lauri Markkanen (19.3 points, 6.2 rebounds) has thrived as Utah’s go-to scorer, and Collin Sexton (18.3 points) adds an aggressive, downhill attack to the offense. Together, they form a high-scoring duo that can put up points in bunches.

While their individual talent is undeniable, their fit leaves questions. Both excel with the ball in their hands, and neither has shown elite defensive impact. The Jazz are a lottery team because their two best players aren’t quite impactful enough together.

29. Anfernee Simons & Shaedon Sharpe

Anfernee Simons (18.5 points) continues to showcase his scoring chops, while Shaedon Sharpe’s 17.3 points and athleticism give Portland hope for the future. This backcourt has all the tools to become an offensive juggernaut.

However, their defense is a glaring weakness, and their lack of experience shows in crunch-time situations. While the potential is sky-high, the Blazers’ rebuild will require patience as these two grow into their roles.

30. Jordan Poole & Bilal Coulibaly

Jordan Poole (20.8 points) will embrace the role of Washington’s offensive leader with Kyle Kuzma gone, and Bilal Coulibaly’s 12.6 points and impressive defense give this pairing a solid foundation to build on. The Wizards are betting on Poole’s creativity and Coulibaly’s versatility.

That said, this duo is still a work in progress. Poole’s efficiency and decision-making need improvement, and Coulibaly is still developing his offensive game. While they’re near the bottom now, their potential to grow together makes them an intriguing long-term project.
