Nikola Jokic will have a lot of days off before the Denver Nuggets return to the court for Game 1 of the NBA Finals, as the Boston Celtics look to stretch their series out to Game 6 in the East Finals.

If the Nuggets win their first title in franchise history, Nikola Jokic will be heralded as one of the game’s greatest players. Richard Jefferson praised Jokic for everything he’s achieved so far and calls this one of the greatest individual playoff runs in NBA history.

“If Jokic is able to win a championship this year and continue the numbers he’s putting up. It will be one, two, or three greatest runs we have ever seen. He’s averaging a 30-point triple-double right now. He’s beaten KD, he’s beaten the Lakers. If they win their first championship, show me another run from start to finish. We’ve seen great runs from LeBron, and Kobe, but a 30-point triple-double? Throughout the postseason, we’ve never seen that before. You have to put it up there as one of the best performances ever. Coming off the heels of 2 MVPs, I don’t know where he ranks, but what he’s doing right now, it’s one of the most impressive things we’ve seen in the game of basketball.”

Jokic is averaging 29.9 points, 13.3 rebounds, and 10.3 assists in the playoffs, numbers we don’t see players put up. Prime LeBron James is the only comparable player, putting up 30-point triple-doubles against the Golden State Warriors, but those were done because he was the only weapon on those teams.

Being close to LeBron in playoff numbers over a season shows its historic production in itself, so this run may end with Jokic elevating himself to a basketball icon.

Can The Nuggets Pull It Off?

This is the best shot the Nuggets have had at a title run. These opportunities cannot be taken for granted, and the Nuggets will be ready to tear down any team in front of them.

The Celtics will be a more challenging stylistic matchup with their versatile weapons on both ends of the floor. The Heat may just struggle to play their aggressive style of basketball against the bigger and more athletic Nuggets roster, so that’s probably the matchup they’re hoping to get. The Celtics can attack Denver in a number of ways, so that series will likely be the most compelling.
