Rob Pelinka Says The Lakers Plan To Sign A Young Player And Pair Him With Anthony Davis

The Los Angeles Lakers just won the NBA championship led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the Orlando bubble. LeBron is the current figure of the team but Anthony Davis knew how to take the lead when his team needed him, even taking big shots to take the Lakers to the victory. LeBron might be the present of this team but AD is seen as the future of the franchise. It was recently reported that he’s planning to opt out of his contract to re-sign with the team.

The team has big plans for him and Rob Pelinka has revealed that they want Davis to lead their project along with another star. During a recent appearance on ‘The Woj Pod’ podcast, Pelinka said that the Lakers have the flexibility to build around LeBron James and especially Anthony Davis for the long-term. He said the team wants to sign another young player to team him up with the star duo.

“We hope we can have another championship run, build pieces around LeBron and AD,” Lakers GM Rob Pelinka said, via Sportskeeda.

“But for the future, if you study our cap, we have the flexibility. The objective is to add another really talented young player to pair him up with AD if he chooses to sign with us for the long term.”

It remains to be seen what players they are going to pursue. They’ve been linked with Giannis Antetokounmpo, Magic Johnson even stated he’d like to see Luka Doncic wearing the purple and gold and Bradley Beal was reportedly under their radar, although Beal doesn’t necessarily fit the ‘young player’ category.

The Lakers have tasted the sweet flavor of the victory and they aren’t planning to do something different. It took them 10 years to be successful again and they won’t let that success go just like that.
