The Ime Udoka scandal has been making a lot of noise around the NBA for a while now. The Boston Celtics head coach was suspended for a year after he had an improper relationship with a female member of the team staff, causing a big controversy within the organization and around the league.
This has been one of the hottest topics in the league and many people have given their two pennies on that. Former players like Shaquille O’Neal and Matt Barnes have spoken about this, each having different opinions on this matter. Analysts have also chimed in, saying different things, too.
Robert Horry is the most recent legend to offer his opinion on this situation. The 7-time NBA champion has been very vocal on NBA-related matters, first talking about the new friendship of Russell Westbrook and Patrick Beverley, which he thinks is fake.
Robert Horry Explains The Differences Between Phil Jackson And Ime Udoka
Horry also talked about the relationship that legendary head coach Phil Jackson had with Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss and how it compares to the Ime Udoka situation. During a recent edition of his podcast, Horry explained why one situation isn’t comparable to the other.
Via Fox News:
“I’ve had so many people come up to me and be like ‘Well, why Phil didn’t get kicked off the team when he was dating Jeanie Buss?’ I’m like ‘Because he was dating Jeanie Buss,’” the seven-time champ said on his “Big Shot Bob” Podcast. “That may not be against their team policy. I’m pretty sure if Ime was a Laker and did what he did, that still would have been against team policy… But dating somebody and disclosing that, that’s not against team policy.”
This relationship was public, and they never hid it, which is a lot different from what Udoka did. Even though the Celtics first announced it was a consensual one, a recent report claimed that the head coach used ‘crude language’ when he first established communication with this unknown woman.
Another report claims that he had two affairs within the organization, one that involved the female staffer we’ve heard of during this time and also the wife of a minority owner. If this is true, there’s no doubt why the Celtics made this decision and why some don’t think Ime will return to coach the C’s.
