Russell Westbrook is an amazing player, and he is good at many things. If you want someone to facilitate for your team, throw phenomenal dunks, or stuff the box score, then Brodie is your man. But what Russ can’t do is shoot consistently.
Westbrook has always received backlash for not only shooting inefficiently but being subpar from the 3-point line. Despite averaging 22.2 points, 11.7 assists, and 11.5 rebounds per game last season, he shot just 31.5% from beyond the arc. Surprisingly, this is the highest three-point percentage that Russ has had since the 2017-18 NBA season.
Well, despite the above-mentioned flaws, a few years ago Westbrook jokingly claimed he could shoot better than Reggie Miller and Steve Kerr.
Well, it was obvious that Brodie was joking about it. Both Miller and Kerr were amazing three-point shooters during their careers. Westbrook, on the other hand, never really bothered to develop a lethal three-point shot.
However, at the end of the day, Brodie gets the job done for his team. Excluding the last two seasons, Westbrook has been a top 10 player in the league.
The only thing missing from his resume is a championship ring. This could change in the upcoming NBA season. The 32-year-old is now a Los Angeles Lakers player, where he has amazing teammates like LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Moreover, the Lakers have plenty of other players to handle the three-point scoring. So, they won’t need Westbrook to indulge in that department.
He can focus on what he does best – inside scoring, rebounding, and dishing out dimes. If Russ can keep doing that, it will be really hard for oppositions to stop the purple and gold from at least making it to the NBA finals.
Expectations are really high from Westbrook’s Lakers debut, hopefully he will live up to those expectations. And who knows, maybe Russ actually develops a three-point shot and surprises everyone when the new season starts.
Although the chances of this happening are really low, it doesn’t hurt to dream, right? What are your expectations from Russ and the Lakers for this season?
