There are certainly several things that the Los Angeles Lakers can improve this season. With the NBA All-Star weekend approaching soon, the Lakers are still in the 12th spot and have a record of 17-21.
Considering the type of season that LeBron James is having, they should certainly be in a better position. But apart from that, one of the only few positives for the Lakers this season has been the improved performance of Russell Westbrook.
Last season, Russell Westbrook had one of the worst seasons of his career. Evidently, Lakers fans wanted the franchise to trade the former NBA MVP. But head coach Darvin Ham convinced Russ to come off the bench instead, and it did wonders for Westbrook. So much so that the potential Westbrook trade is now off the table.
Russell Westbrook Can Still Improve
Although coming off the bench may have saved Westbrook’s career, there are still many places that Brodie can improve. Despite averaging a solid 14.5 PPG, 6.3 RPG, and 7.7 APG, Westbrook’s three-point shooting is still a concern for the Lakers.
In fact, Westbrook is currently ranked dead last in the league in terms of shooting from deep. He is currently averaging an abysmal 27.5% from the three-point line. But that’s not the end of troubles for Westbrook.
On top of that, Westbrook’s shooting percentage from the free-throw line is an additional concern for the team. Westbrook is currently shooting 67.2% from the charity stripe, which makes him part of the five worst free-throw shooters in the league as well.
Keeping these stats in mind, the Lakers will certainly hope that Westbrook can work on his shooting and get off the bottom of both lists. After all, the Lakers are heavily relying on Westbrook to lead the second unit to win games. If Russ can just improve his shooting percentages, the Lakers will have a real chance at improving their record in the coming weeks.
