Russell Westbrook’s 2022-23 season has been a rollercoaster ride, with there being some incredible highs and some unfortunate lows.
His time with the Los Angeles Lakers was a difficult one, to say the least, and Westbrook stated he was in a much better place mentally the moment they traded him.
“Once I got traded. Immediately, to be honest,” Westbrook said when asked when he had some peace of mind and could be himself. “From that moment, mentally, I was in a better place.”

The situation between him and the Lakers just worsened as the season went on. Even though Westbrook agreed to come off the bench and had some success in that new role, things just weren’t right. A breakup was inevitable and at the end of the day, it has proven to be beneficial for both parties.
The Lakers have really taken off post the trade and are a game away from the Conference Semifinals after taking a 3-1 lead over the Memphis Grizzlies. Westbrook, meanwhile, has shown during his time with the Clippers that he can still contribute at a high level. He finished the series against the Phoenix Suns with impressive averages of 23.6 PPG, 7.6 RPG, 7.4 APG, 1.2 SPG, and 1.4 BPG and an analyst went as far as to say that this has been the best version of Westbrook.
Charles Barkley Blasted Lakers Fans For Blaming Russell Westbrook All The Time
After he joined the Clippers, Westbrook took a subtle shot at the Lakers by stating that he was happy to be on a team that really wanted him there. It was clear he felt unwanted with the Lakers and perhaps felt he was scapegoated for the team’s struggles during his time there.
Charles Barkley has been one of Westbrook’s staunchest defenders and he clearly believes that the Lakers just blamed everything that went wrong on Russ. Barkley believes the Lakers were just a bad team before they made all those trades and that their struggles weren’t down to Westbrook.
