Selecting any NBA all-time starting five will result in at least a couple of the players from the 1992 Dream Team being on it. Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird are all consensus Top 10 players, so they end up on most people’s selections.
Scottie Pippen was a part of the Dream Team as well, and in 2015, he was asked a tough question. Pippen was asked by a fan to name his all-time starting five without any of his fellow teammates from that legendary roster.
“Who’s your all-time starting 5 without picking any guys from the Dream Team?” a fan wrote to Scottie on Twitter. He replied, “I’ll go with the modern-age guys: LeBron to run point, Kobe at SG, Durant at SF, Duncan at PF, Shaq at C.”

A team with LeBron James and Kobe Bryant in the backcourt already sounds incredible. When the greatest power forward, Tim Duncan, is added, along with one of the most elite shooters ever, Kevin Durant, they become unstoppable. And to then throw Shaquille O’Neal, arguably the most dominant NBA player ever in the mix is just unfair.
This team picked by Scottie Pippen would give a tough battle to any all-time starting five, including the ones that consist of Dream Team members. All of these players would be considered Top 15 all-time at the very least, and the team has shooting, athleticism, playmaking, and lockdown defense on the perimeter as well as inside the paint.
Scottie Pippen’s All-Time Starting Five Including Everyone Is A Surprising Selection
Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan won six championships together with the Chicago Bulls. Three of those had Dennis Rodman as a co-star. And when Pippen was asked to name his all-time starting five, he surprisingly picked no players that played for any other NBA franchise.
“I would take me, Michael Jordan, Dennis Rodman, and give me two of anybody,” he said in 2022. “You know what, I’ll take Toni Kukoc and Ron Harper. I think that’s the greatest team of all time.”
His confidence in the Chicago Bulls team that he played for is evident, Pippen thinks they could beat anyone. He did also pick a different all-time starting five in another interview though, one also featuring legends like Magic Johnson, Charles Barkley, and Shaquille O’Neal. These answers often change based on the time the question is asked, but Pippen has always given some interesting takes.
