Russell Westbrook was traded away from the Los Angeles Lakers ahead of the 2023 NBA trade deadline, finishing his tumultuous tenure with the Purple and Gold after they moved him to the Utah Jazz in a 3-team deal that brought D’Angelo Russell, Malik Beasley, and Jarred Vanderbilt.

Westbrook is ready to move on, but he’s yet to make a decision on his future. It seems like he has plenty of options to continue his playing career, with the Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, and Los Angeles Clippers linked with Russ.

There’s still a possibility that the Utah Jazz will keep Westbrook, but that will be his decision, and we won’t know until he makes up his mind. Things could be really good for the player, but according to one insider, the market for him isn’t as good as many people think.

Russell Westbrook’s Future Might Not Be In The NBA

According to Shams Charania, Westbrook’s future might not be in the NBA. The senior insider claims that across the league, no team would have a spot for the former NBA MVP right now. The Utah Jazz has to make a decision on Russ’ future, which looks very complex right now.

“I have not heard any traction yet on Russell Westbrook and the Clippers. Lawrence Frank said he wants defense, shooting from the position, so I don’t know if Russ fits that, but when you look at teams around the league, there’s not a spot for Russell Westbrook yet. He’s still with Utah Jazz. The Jazz have until March 1 to decide whether they’re gonna buy out Russell Westbrook from his contract to make him playoffs eligible, and I would expect them to wait until next week or so to figure out whether he can find a home somewhere else. I do believe if he had a home by now, the Jazz would have bought him out, and allowed him to go seek another team, but right now, it’s a slow-moving market, and we’ll see if he’ll be able to find a home.”

Russell Westbrook showed that he could still be a reliable player in the NBA, adopting a new role on the Los Angeles Lakers. He really thrived coming off the bench, but now it’s time to find something new for him. It seems like the market is non-existent right now, which is really unfair for Russ, who remains a very disrespected player in the NBA.
