Ben Simmons was expected to take a step forward after both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving were traded away from the Brooklyn Nets. The Australian point guard was never able to create a good connection with his former teammates, but they never had a bad relationship.
That’s why it was shocking when he took a shot at Kyrie Irving while explaining that the Nets are in a good position now that they’re drama-free, but things haven’t completely changed for the Brooklynites. Jacque Vaughn has already expressed his doubts about Simmons’ fit with the team, especially now that they received a lot of players in the Kyrie and Durant trades.
Simmons appears to be on the same page as his head coach, but he’s remaining humble, showing his disposition to help the team in whatever they need, which is really unclear as of right now.
Ben Simmons Says He Has ‘No Idea’ About His Future Role With Brooklyn Nets
Talking with Kristian Winfield of The New York Daily News, Simmons doesn’t even know what he’ll do next on the Nets, claiming that he has ‘no idea’ of his role on this team.
Simmons says he has “no idea” what his role will be moving forward with this new-look team.
“Everything’s been changing all year, so it’s hard to really understand what’s going on, but hopefully we find some rhythm and consistency,” he said after shootaround Monday morning. “It’s different. It’s a different experience (coming off the bench). So whatever the team needs from us to win, I’m willing to do that.”
Simmons hasn’t been able to make an impact on the Nets, and many people have criticized him for that. The former No. 1 overall pick hasn’t been the same since his infamous second-round series against the Atlanta Hawks in 2021. At least the Philadelphia 76ers got to enjoy his best version, but the Nets are seemingly growing unhappy with Simmons’ performances.
He needs to find that spark inside him again, or things will be hard for the player and his team.
