Anthony Davis came in for a ton of criticism online this season. His inability to stay healthy and affect winning even when he did manage to get on the court disappointed a lot of the Los Angeles Lakers fans that were watching. AD has shown that he has what it takes to be a Top 5 player in the league, but ever since the Lakers won the championship in 2020, he hasn’t shown anything more than brief glimpses of that.
Considering that the Lakers moved almost their entire young core for him, Davis was expected to be the man to carry them through these seasons, yet LeBron James remains the main man on the team. Davis recently had a video of him go viral where he admitted he hadn’t touched the ball in 2 months, something that led to more bashing on social media.
The latest person to speak out about AD is Shannon Sharpe, with the analyst saying that despite all of his talent, Davis is simply not cut out to be like the all-time greats, or even his peer, Giannis Antetokounmpo.

“All of a sudden he got that ring, now he’s gonna be back to square one. It takes a special type of somebody to do what LeBron (James), to do what (Michael) Jordan, to do what Kobe (Bryant) … Everybody is not wired like that. Anthony Davis is not wired like that.
“He should’ve been Giannis before Giannis. Six-foot-ten, can shoot, can rebound, can play it all. … Why isn’t he? Because it doesn’t mean enough to him. That’s it.”
This may sound like a bit of a harsh analysis from Sharpe, but he’s not alone in saying something along these lines. And until AD comes out and starts performing at the highest level again, these takes are likely to only get worse. The big man will have a full offseason to train and the Lakers have a new coach, so if there is ever a chance for AD to get back to it and remind everyone of his abilities, it’s next season.
