Shaquille O’Neal Explains Why Fans Are Upset With Kevin Durant And Why They Call Him A ‘Runner’

When it comes to possessing the sheer talent to play basketball at an elite level, there aren’t many that come close to the level of the Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant. He is truly one of a kind player and has proved that throughout his career.

But apart from playing basketball, Durant has some flaws. He has developed the reputation of someone who is not loyal to the franchise that he has played for in the last few years.

First, he left the Oklahoma City Thunder and joined the best team in the world, the Golden State Warriors. He essentially ruined the league for a couple of years. After that, he once again decided to create a superteam by joining the Brooklyn Nets.

But unlike his stint with the Warriors, this time around failed to even reach the NBA Finals, let alone win a championship. Now, after just three seasons with the Nets, Durant has requested a trade.

Obviously, it led to many being utterly furious with the 2x NBA champ. And it seems like NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal is one of those people who was confused by Durant’s decision. Shaq gave a complete breakdown of it in his recent appearance on ‘The Big Podcast.’

(Starts at 28:07)

Via The Big Podcast:

“Why? That was my first reaction. Why? Okay. I mean, you listen to everybody else talking, he’s a runner, and he does this, and he does that. I don’t know where his mindset is at but I like to compete… And Kevin is in his prime. At the end of his career, if he has two, three rings and he wants one last chance to get another and he does this, that’s the loophole that’s accepted. But when they say, LeBron started it, making a super team and all that.

But what Kevin needs to understand is that where people, and he probably doesn’t care, I understand that. But where people get upset is you had that on the ropes 3-1. You couldn’t close the deal and then 45 days later you sign with that team and you win two and then you lose that team and then you try to create another superteam, it all breaks loose he gets swept. Now the same possibly, you may go back to that team again. It’s just putting sour taste in people’s lives.

Shaq’s reaction to the Kevin Durant trade saga is perfectly valid. Even more so when, a few days ago, rumors of Kevin Durant potentially joining the Warriors again surfaced on the internet.

But this time around, the only difference is that KD doesn’t have a say in getting traded to the Dubs. Even if he doesn’t want to reunite with Stephen Curry and co., there’s very little he can do. He has four years left on his contract, and the Nets hold the strings for Durant’s future.
