- Shaquille O’Neal once gave a waitress $4,000 simply because she asked for it
Shaquille O’Neal is worth more than $400 million, and he never hesitates to share his wealth with people that aren’t as successful as him. When Jimmy Kimmel asked him about his process for tipping waiters and servers, O’Neal shared a brilliant story.
“Yes, I am a big tipper,” Shaquille O’Neal said. “Last week I had to beg the store guys, ‘Listen, just let me take these donuts and a soda, and Imma go home and bring the money back.’ They said, ‘Yeah, you can do it.’
“But when I’m at restaurants, I’m a big tipper. I like to show people my appreciation. So when they come up to the table, I say, ‘The quicker I get my order, the bigger your tip will be.’ And then the food will come fast.
“And then when we get ready to leave, I’ll ask them, ‘How much you want?’ And the most someone said it was $4,000. And I said, ‘Okay, no problem.’ It was a young lady. She was like, ‘Oh my god, you’re gonna pay my rent for the next two months!’”
That is exceptionally generous of Shaquille O’Neal to make offers like that to people and then back it up even if the request is as much as $4,000. There’s nothing more beautiful than sharing one’s blessings with the world, and Shaquille O’Neal’s generosity is one of the reasons he is so widely loved and appreciated.
Shaquille O’Neal Has A History Of Helping Everyone He Can
Shaquille O’Neal made $292 million in NBA salary alone during his career and has since used that to become a business tycoon. He has done this despite being open-handed with everyone he comes across. This was one of the valuable lessons his father taught him when he made Shaquille O’Neal buy burgers for a homeless man.
His generosity isn’t limited to the less fortunate, Shaquille O’Neal once gave Tyronn Lue $20,000 to help him during the NBA lockout in 1999. It would be hard to count how many people have benefitted from his generosity, and the Los Angeles Lakers legend has certainly built up a lot of goodwill with his actions.
