• Stephen A. Smith thinks Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks have a better chance at winning an NBA Championship before Joel Embiid

• Smith blasted Embiid for crying after losing against the Toronto Raptors in the 2019 NBA playoffs

• Smith doesn’t believe that the Philadelphia 76ers and Atlanta Hawks can get their star players enough help to win an NBA Championship

Winning the NBA Championship is the ultimate goal for every team in the league. But each season, only one team can attain it. NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith believes that day is still far away for Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers.

Smith brought back Embiid’s crying episode after getting eliminated in the 2019 NBA playoffs to further strengthen his point.

“I remember him crying after they lost to Kawhi Leonard and Toronto when the ball bounced at the rim four times,” Smith said on ESPN’s First Take. “I can’t imagine how much he was crying this past weekend.”

Smith added: “I’m gonna go with Jalen Brunson and the Knicks because I don’t know if Philly is going to be able to get Embiid the requisite help that he needs. I certainly don’t believe in the Hawks in terms of championship contention. So I’m gonna go with the Knicks.”

Who will win a championship first?

— First Take (@FirstTake) July 26, 2023

According to the poll conducted by First Take, 55.9% picked Joel Embiid to win the ring first. While 26.1% named Jalen Brunson, and a meager 18% voted for Trae Young.

Stephen A. Smith has been a longtime Knicks fan, so there was no surprise when he picked Jalen Brunson to win a ring first over Joel Embiid and Trae Young.

Joel Embiid Could Join The New York Knicks

Joel Embiid averaged 33.1 PPG, 10.2 RPG, and 4.2 APG to win the first MVP award of his career in the 2022-23 NBA season.

But the 76ers once again choked in the playoffs. They blew a 3-2 lead in the 2023 Eastern Conference Semifinals vs. the Boston Celtics. With James Harden already seeking a move out of the 76ers, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Joel Embiid does the same.

According to reports, the New York Knicks are interested in trading for Embiid if he becomes available. Well, Embiid is still 29 years old and is in the prime of his career. With the core of Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson, adding Joel Embiid could help the Knicks finally end their championship drought.
