After becoming the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, there’s only one major argument standing against LeBron James in his bid to be considered the greatest of all time. LeBron James has won 4 NBA championships, 2 less than Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and a lot of that is largely thanks to one team in particular.

The Golden State Warriors beat LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals 3 times during the 2010s, including two back-to-back seasons. The King did win one of the most impressive titles ever against them, but they beat him more often than he did them. As such, it was quite a rivalry for 4 years, but there’s a lot of respect between the stars on both teams.

After LeBron James officially became the leading scorer in the league’s history, many NBA stars quickly applauded him online. Draymond Green was among them, tweeting out of respect to the King.

“Congrats my brother @KingJames not hearing anything they sayin!! #38388”

Golden State Warriors Officially Posted A Congratulations Video For LeBron James

The Golden State Warriors put out a video. The video was to congratulate the King, and it included both Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. Both spoke from the heart, and it’s lovely to see how respectful the rivalry has become.

Stephen Curry: “Congratulations on becoming the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.”

Draymond Green: “LJ. My brother. Man. Such an incredible, incredible feat.”

Stephen Curry: “Your sustained level of play for 20 years, reaching this pinnacle of scoring in basketball, it is unbelievable.”

Draymond Green: “Just speaks to who you are as a person, and obviously who you are as a player.”

Stephen Curry: “Way down the road, when we were fighting back in our career, we’ll meet in our career knowing what it was like to battle at the highest level.”

Draymond Green: “To have the opportunity to play against you in some epic battles. I just wanna say it’s been an honor to witness what you’ve done.”

Stephen Curry: “So be proud. Celebrate with your family, your teammates. An accomplishment that is beyond well deserved. Congrats!”

Draymond Green has become pretty good friends with LeBron James, so it’s not surprising to see him be involved in this tribute. But the achievement is big enough to be appreciated by everyone, even rivals, so everyone can give him a pass this time. Ultimately, those NBA Finals between the Cavaliers and the Warriors defined basketball for a whole generation, and mutual respect is how it should always be.
