Stephen Curry Gives Encouraging Update On Klay Thompson’s Health: “Klay Is Confident, He’s Energetic, He’s In A Good Space Mentally”

It’s been a tough couple of years for the Golden State Warriors. They’ve missed the playoffs in back-to-back seasons after 5 straight trips to the NBA Finals, and Klay Thompson’s injury has been a great reason why.

Nonetheless, it seems like the Splash Brother is making great strides in his recovery and, more importantly, he’s focused and mentally ready to come back; according to Stephen Curry:

“Kevon Looney said it the other day. He [Klay] is confident, he’s energetic, he’s in a good space mentally knowing that this has been a long two years for him, man. We’re not gonna keep reminding him how long it’s been, but he understands the work that’s ahead of him and the opportunity that’s ahead of him, to come back to the Klay that we all know and love,” Curry told ESPN.

Even so, Curry doesn’t want to put that much pressure on Thompson’s shoulders. He knows that it’ll take baby steps to get back to his former self but it’s confident in his ability to come through:

“I know that’s what his expectations are, so he’s put in the work and it was great to have him around all year even though he wasn’t playing. Once we get back to training camp, it’ll be right back at the end of his rehab progress that we can help him get over the hump, and get him back out there on the court,” the 2x MVP added.

Curry also believes in the team’s roster as it is. Some Warriors fans thought that they needed to trade for an All-Star rather than taking young players in the Draft. Steph, however, feels pretty excited about what they have right now:

“With the two guys we drafted and, hopefully getting Klay back as soon as possible.  We have full confidence we are still that team. We obviously have to go out and prove it, but that’s kind of the vibe right now and we’re just trying to stay patient with it,” Curry concluded.

Even if the young players aren’t ready to contribute, the Warriors will have most of their 2015 championship core together, so I wouldn’t want to bet against them next season.
