The San Antonio Spurs are one of the most successful franchises in NBA history, with the team notably winning five championships during the Tim Duncan era. There’s no doubt that they had an amazing run, and they will forever be remembered in NBA history.

Spurs legend Tony Parker was the starting point guard for a large portion of the Spurs’ dynasty, and there’s no doubt that he played a huge role in the team winning multiple championships. However, recently, Stephen Jackson has boldly claimed that the San Antonio Spurs could have won more championships if the point guard was less “selfish.”

I know the type of person Tony is. Great player, going to go down in the Hall of Fame. But he’s very selfish. He’s been selfish. We would have had more championships and more success if it wasn’t for him being so selfish… He come to the NBA, start as a 19 year old. He had a rude awakening because once we got to the playoffs, it was Stephon Marbury, it was Jason Kidd. He couldn’t handle them, so we had to play Speedy Claxton. I know the real Tony. He can fool everybody else, but he is one of the most selfish players I’ve ever played with.

It will be intriguing to see if Tony Parker ends up responding to these comments from Stephen Jackson. Parker is not known for being a ball hog or a shot hunter, and this is definitely a different take on the point guard from Jackson.

Tim Duncan Wasn’t Sold On Tony Parker

There were a lot of people that had doubts about Tony Parker when he came into the league. In fact, even Tim Duncan was among their number, with him notably claiming the Spurs “will never win a title” with a European point guard like Tony Parker.

The most important thing for me was showing Pop and Duncan that I deserved to be there. I was aware of Duncan’s doubts. When the Spurs drafted me, he said, “But why are we drafting a European point guard? We’ll never win a title with a European point guard.”

It is clear that the San Antonio Spurs have enjoyed a lot of success with Tony Parker, and Tim Duncan is likely glad that he was wrong in this case. The Spurs wouldn’t have a dynasty without Tony Parker.

At the end of the day, Tony Parker is a future Hall of Famer. Even though the point guard is controversial, it is clear that he was an elite player, and he will forever be known as the starting point guard of the Spurs dynasty.
