Draymond Green has been suspended from the NBA indefinitely, with people around the league expressing concern for the Warriors star after he punched Jusuf Nurkic. Steve Kerr has commented on his star’s situation, hoping to see Green change in his time away from the court and get himself right.

“It’s about more than basketball. It’s about helping Draymond. It’s an opportunity for Draymond to step away and make a change … the answer is not to pick a number (of games). The answer is to help Draymond. Give him the opportunity to make a change and help him for the rest of his life. It’s not just an outburst on the court… The one who choked Rudy, the one who took a wild flail, the one who punched Jordan (Poole) last year, that’s the guy who needs to change.”

Kerr listing out all the major incidents that Green has had in the last year also shows that people within the Golden State organization didn’t hold Draymond accountable for any of his behaviors. Small suspensions had no impact on him, with the Warriors even getting rid of the player that he punched. His attacks on Rudy Gobert, Domantas Sabonis, and now Nurkic just show a horrible pattern that had to be broken through league intervention.

He has been able to evade the consequences of his actions for years, which probably encourages him to act out the way he has been doing this season.

The Warriors will hope that Green’s time away from the court is fruitful, especially with how badly they need him on the court to be a competitive franchise. They can’t rush this process after everything that’s happened. Green was averaging 9.7 points, 5.8 assists, and 5.5 rebounds before his second suspension of the season.

Draymond Green’s Former Teammate Kevin Durant Is Worried About Him

Kevin Durant and Draymond Green shared a locker room for three seasons. Their relationship was reportedly frosty, with Green ultimately pushing Durant out of the door after a heated locker room spat. However, Durant and Green do share a strong relationship and KD expressed his concern for Green after his punch on Nurkic.

“That was insane to see. Never seen that before in an NBA game. It’s incident after incident, I hope he gets the help he needs. He hasn’t been that way when I was around or coming into the league so I hope he gets the help he needs, get back on the court, and put all this stuff behind him.”

Durant was on the bench when Draymond punched Nurkic, so it’s safe to say he had some of the best seats in the house during that incident. He wasn’t playing in that game, so he didn’t say anything after the game. KD backs his teammate but is concerned about the mental health of one of this generation’s best defenders and one of the core pieces of a championship dynasty.

Nobody wants to watch the kind of incidents we’ve seen from Green over the last two seasons. Hopefully, this suspension helps him change.
