Over the past few weeks, as the Golden State Warriors continue to struggle, countless people around the NBA community have spoken out against Steve Kerr, questioning and criticizing his place with the team.

While these types of things always happen for teams in a bad way, but it’s probably the first time since Kerr took over years ago that he’s having to deal with it in this volume.

Nevertheless, he chose to respond to all the noise in a recent interview, citing that fans like to go to extremes when a team is really good or struggling.

“When we were doing great, I was an offensive genius,” Kerr said in an interview on 95.7 The Game. “Now we’re struggling and I’m behind the times. The truth is always somewhere in the between.”

Whether you love him or hate him, Kerr isn’t exactly wrong here. Anytime a team does well, the coach is hailed and praised for being effective. For teams not doing well, the coach is usually one of the first to get blamed. It’s a flawed system that often makes job security/stability impossible for coaches.

In this case, it’s hard to say how much of the Warriors’ success was a result of his schemes. It’s similarly hard to tell how much of their struggles are a result of his shortcomings.

In any case, all the Warriors can do is assess what they need now, and if Kerr is doing the things that they expect from him at this moment. For now, it seems they’re content with who they’ve got.
