USA Basketball held its training camp for the upcoming 2024 FIBA U17 Men’s World Cup from June 15 to 17 in Colorado Springs. A fair few sons of current and former NBA players were invited for it, including Bryce James, Kiyan Anthony, Alijah Arenas, Tahj Ariza, Cayden Boozer, and Cameron Boozer.
Bryce James, son of LeBron James, and Kiyan Anthony, son of Carmelo Anthony, have been making waves in the basketball world recently. Kiyan also put on a show at the prestigious NBPA Top 100 Camp that was held recently, but neither he nor Bryce ended up making the 19-man roster after training camp.
“The finalists, representing high school graduating classes of 2025 and 2026, are Alijah Arenas, Tajh Ariza, Cameron Boozer, Cayden Boozer, Chris Cenac Jr., AJ Dybantsa, Caleb Gaskins, Kingston Flemings, Jalen Haralson, Caleb Holt, JJ Mandaquit, Brandon McCoy Jr., Jalen Montonati, Koa Peat, Deron Rippey Jr., Jordan Smith Jr., Tyran Stokes, Jaden Toombs and Elijah Williams.”
These 19 players from the high school graduating classes of 2025 and 2026 will be competing for 12 spots on the final roster for the World Cup, which will be held from June 29 to July 7 in Istanbul. Team USA has won every edition of the tournament thus far and has yet to lose a single game (44-0).
With the kind of roster they are potentially taking to the 2024 edition, I would say another triumph is on the cards.
AJ Dybantsa is the No. 1 ranked player for the class of 2025, according to ESPN. Cameron Boozer, son of Carlos Boozer, meanwhile is No. 2 and his twin brother Cayden comes in at No. 14. Koa Peat is another top-ranked prospect at No. 5.
In the class of 2026, ESPN has Tyran Stokes at No.1, Brandon McCoy Jr. at No.2, Alijah Arenas, son of Gilbert Arenas, at No.4, Caleb Holt at No. 5, Tahj Ariza, son of Trevor Ariza, at No. 6, Elijah Williams at No. 8, and Jordan Smith Jr. at No. 9. Those are some big guns that are potentially headed to Istanbul.
In case you’re wondering where LeBron and Carmelo’s sons find themselves on the rankings, well they’re not rated quite as highly. Kiyan comes in at No. 45 for the 2025 class while Bryce finds himself outside the top 100.
