The 2022-23 season promised much for the Cleveland Cavaliers, but it ended in disappointment in the form of a first-round exit in the playoffs.
While no one expected the team to win the title, failing to even win a series was just not good enough. On the back of that disappointment, it appears the front office isn’t averse to a major shake-up and they are open to discussing trades for star point guard Darius Garland, as per Hoops Wire’s NBA insider Sam Amico.
“That doesn’t mean the Cavs are dying to deal Garland,” Amico wrote. “It doesn’t mean they are shopping him around. But it does sound as if they’re open to it when other teams inquire.”
This does seem like a bit premature on the Cavaliers’ part. Garland is just 23 years old and is coming off a season in which he averaged 21.6 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 7.8 APG, and 1.2 SPG. Being open to discussing trades for him after just one season of pairing him with Donovan Mitchell doesn’t seem right.
There are concerns about the two of them together being too short of a backcourt as they are both 6’1, but the Cavs knew that when they traded for Mitchell. To even think of breaking it up so soon makes you believe they think they made a mistake.
Brian Windhorst Stated He Had Heard Some Outlandish News On The Cavaliers
NBA insider Brian Windhorst made some rather interesting comments recently regarding the Cavaliers. He stated he had heard some speculation that was outlandish but he couldn’t speak about it at that moment. He did state though that it was already out on social media somewhere, so it could be something else, like a trade for Tobias Harris.
The last time Windhorst suggested that something big might be going on behind the scenes was with the Utah Jazz, right before they traded away Rudy Gobert. Going by that track record of his, the Cavaliers might well be the team to keep an eye on in the coming days and weeks.
