The Lakers Are “The Most Likely Landing Spot” For Carmelo Anthony If He Leaves Portland In Free Agency, Says NBA Agent

After his resurgence in Portland, Carmelo Anthony is hitting the free-agent market again — and this time, there will be no shortage of suitors.

Among them, one NBA agent says the Los Angeles Lakers are the most likely landing spot for the veteran scorer, setting up a partnership between LeBron and Anthony that many fans have dreamed about.

Anthony has not shed any light on his offseason plans, but after Portland’s early first-round exit, there is reason to believe he will not be returning to the franchise.

In Los Angeles, the Lakers will have some big decisions to make of their own. It became clear in the 2021 playoffs that the team doesn’t have enough fire-power off the bench. If they want to compete, it’s imperative that they re-tool their roster with capable shot makers.

Alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, Melo could thrive in that sort of role, and make use of open looks the two stars will inevitably create for him.

Of course, it remains to be seen where Carmelo will land, or which way he is leaning in regards to his future.

This past season, he averaged 13.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game on 42.1% shooting.
