The Rare Footage Of Michael Jordan Playing Pick-Up Games With Other NBA Players On Space Jam Set

3 Min Read

LeBron James’ Space Jam 2 came out a few months ago. While fans liked it, it was not something on par with the original Space Jam movie starring none other than the legendary Michael Jordan.

The first Space Jam movie came out in 1996, but the shooting for the movie was ongoing during 1995. What else was happening that year? The return of MJ to the league.

After taking a short break to play minor league baseball, Jordan announced his return to the league. But coming back to the NBA, Mike had to make sure he was in good shape and could continue tormenting opponents like fans had gotten used to seeing.

To make sure he is at the top of the game, Jordan trained relentlessly even when shooting for Space Jam. In fact, there was a special Jordan Dome at the Space Jam sets, which he used to train and play pickup games with other NBA players.

The likes of Dennis Rodman, Patrick Ewing, Reggie Miller, and many more players used to come to pick-up games hosted by Mike. Recently, Ballislife.com posted a series of videos on Twitter, depicting some unseen footage from the aforementioned pickup games.

It was on the occasion of the Space Jam movie being premiered 25 years ago. Well, to top that off, Ballislife.com further tweeted:

“Michael Jordan playing in pick-up games on the SPACE JAM set at The Jordan Dome aka The Bubble. Each night from 7:30-10PM, MJ & up to 22 NBA players would play there.”

That is not all. Mike used the pickup games to create scouting reports on his opponents. It would come in handy for him to study the game of his biggest competitors right before the start of the new season.

Stories like these are more than enough for people to remember the extent to which Jordan went to stay ahead of his competition is simply insane. He has a glorious resume to show for his efforts.

Coming back to the league in the 1995-96 season, he led the Bulls to three more NBA Championships and truly established himself as the GOAT of basketball. Some still wonder to this date what could have Michael Jordan achieved if he never retired? Well, we can only speculate.
