Just when many people thought the one-and-done rule would be erased from the NBA, team owners and the NBPA came to an agreement on that, keeping this rule in the new CBA.
This was a big shock for everybody, but a recent report suggests that veteran players played a big role in this decision.
One other thing that stuck out to me and other executives around the league is high school players not being eligible to be drafted. A lot of people thought that was going to be a thing in this new CBA. I heard some NBA veterans expressed concern over high school players coming in and taking their spots. From NBA scouts I talk to, they’re fine not going to high school gyms. One executive said it best to me, “I think high school players will be NBA-eligible maybe in the next CBA. With the NIL, players are somewhat satisfied, and the league doesn’t feel as much pressure to allow the kids to make money.”
Michael Scotto of HoopsHype talked with a series of executives around the league, trying to find the answers that not only he but the rest of NBA fans want to get. This was expected to be a thing of the past, but veteran players putting pressure on the league, owners, and the ones that represent them changed everything.
In the past, we’ve seen incredible players coming straight out of high school to the league, with Kobe Bryant and LeBron James being two of the most famous cases. Still, it seems like we’ll have to wait to see players going straight from high school to the league.
The New CBA Has Been Blasted By Several Players
The CBA has been on the receiving end of criticism for several reasons. With Draymond Green blasting it for the salary cap changes, then saying that the dynasties are over after the new CBA kicks in.
Kevin Durant isn’t a fan of it either, as he threw shade at the 65-game ruling for every NBA award. The details we’ve learned about this new CBA have raised a lot of eyebrows around the league, and things appear to be getting worse by the day.
