Ty Lue Lashes Out At Daryl Morey Amid Free Throw Feud: “Last Time He Tweeted, He Cost The NBA A Billion Dollars”

2 Min Read

The sudden feud between Tyronn Lue and Daryl Morey seems to be escalating quicker than anyone anticipated. Lue recently made comments on the scoring abilities of James Harden and Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers, bluntly stating that they wouldn’t be having the scoring numbers they have without free throws.

76ers GM Daryl Morey didn’t take too kindly to that comment about his stars and clapped back on Twitter by pointing out that the Clippers would be dead last offensively in the NBA without free throws. A fair come back and the situation would die down at that point. Right?

Wrong. Coach Lue responded by bringing up one of Morey’s worst professional moments when he cost the NBA over a billion dollars in 2019 over a ‘Free Hong Kong’ tweet, something that even LeBron James wanted to see Morey punished for.

“Should he really be tweeting anything right now? Last time he tweeted, he cost the NBA a billion dollars. So, I don’t think he should be doing too much tweeting. Just worry about his own team.”

Lue also went on to clarify his comments about Harden and Embiid’s scoring proficiency through free throws.

“It was said meaning that if you continue to foul those guys, they can score 50. We want them to make field goals and not free throws because they’re crafty at getting to the line.” (h/t NY Post)

The decision on being upset with Morey in 2019 was a very contentious one. While he endangered NBA’s lucrative business relations in China when the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers were in the country for a pre-season game, he did so in support of a righteous cause.

Lue attacking Morey on that front is a little odd as it wasn’t relevant to their arguments over free throws at all. Morey hasn’t responded to Lue and he most likely won’t, considering the topic he may have to broach to do so.
