Tyronn Lue Claims Lakers Fans Should Be Cheering For Clippers This Postseason

The Los Angeles Clippers are about to play their first Western Conference Finals in franchise history, and they want to have as much support as possible. Things have been different for them this season compared to the Los Angeles Lakers.

While the purple and gold were eliminated in the first round of the 2021 playoffs, the Clips will face the same rival in the WCF. The Phoenix Suns are an inspired team that dominated in the first round of the postseason. The Clippers aren’t afraid of that, though, as they have plenty of support behind them.

However, Tyronn Lue would like to see Lakers fans supporting their ‘little brother’ this offseason, asking Lakers Nation to show some love for the Clippers in this series.

Via Mark Medina of USA Today:

“I know the Lakers are out and there’s a lot of Laker fans here,” said Clippers coach Tyronn Lue, who played on the Lakers’ 2001 NBA championship team. “But once the Lakers are gone, if we’re not playing the Lakers, you should be cheering for the Clippers because it’s all in one city. I can just feel the love and I’m very happy and proud of our guys.”

Well, this is hard to accept. The Clippers weren’t rooting for the Lakers last year, and it’s hard to find a Lakers fan that actually wants the Clips to win it all this campaign. As Shaquille O’Neal and Robert Horry expressed, they will never root for the Clippers. The fans think the same way, so Lue is asking a lot here.

Still, the Clippers have come a long way as the underdogs; they have faithful fans that will be loud when the series goes to the Staples Center. We already saw a Los Angelenos team won the title last year; the Clippers will try to keep that “tradition.”
