Tyler Herro is currently the 6th man for the Miami Heat, providing a scoring boost coming off the bench for the team. But not too long ago, he was a starter on an NBA Finals team during the 2019-20 season, averaging 16.0 PPG.

Herro has recently been in the news cycle due to his statement about being in the same-tier such as superstars like Trae Young and Luka Doncic. Some have already come to his support and agreed with him, such as Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal.

Another person has recently come to Tyler Herro’s support, and that is Miami Heat legend, Udonis Haslem. In an interview with Tyler R. Tynes of GQ, Haslem stated that Herro “got game” and mentioned that none of the players Herro compared himself to have made the NBA Finals, which Herro has.

He said recently that he deserves to be in the same conversation as Luka Doncic and Trae Young and the other young stars of the NBA. Is that what you’ve seen?

Facts. He just hasn’t been given the keys. He came to a team that’s been successful and didn’t need a superstar right away…he came into a different situation. But skillswise, talent wise, damn right. Them other boys ain’t been to the Finals yet, and that’s not to knock them, but you see what [Herro] did. Boy got game. Straight up and down. And if he was on a team, probably not a good team, and he got to go out there and do his thing? Damn right he’d be in those conversations.

Most people wouldn’t consider Tyler Herro a superstar, even if he is a fairly good player and shot creator. Herro averaged 23.3 PPG throughout the first 3 games of the season, and it’s clear that he has made some improvements to his game.

It remains to be seen if Tyler Herro will ever reach star status, but he’s young and has potential. Hopefully, the Miami Heat can help him become the best version of himself, and perhaps we’ll see him continue to flourish this year.
