Serena Williams is generally considered the greatest women’s tennis player of all time. She has recently made news due to her announcing that she will be retiring. Williams is currently competing in the 2022 US Open.
Though many expected Serena Williams to be eliminated in the second round by No. 2 ranked Anna Kontaveit, Williams managed to pull off an upset and will be going into the third round of the Open. There’s no doubt that Serena Williams has nothing to prove, and most wouldn’t have faulted her if she lost. However, it’s clear that Williams won’t simply go away quietly, even if she’ll be retiring at the end of the event.
Lakers superstar LeBron James has recently reacted to Serena Williams’ win, making literal goat noises towards the TV on his Instagram story. He also told her to “keep going” in the Open.

Serena Williams will be playing Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round of the 2022 US Open. It remains to be seen if she will end up coming out victorious after the match. Perhaps we’ll see her have a fairy tale run to end her career.
As for LeBron James, he will be headed into the 20th season of his career in October. Like Serena Williams, his longevity in the sport is almost unprecedented. In fact, Stephen Curry once claimed that LeBron James was the player that “set the standard” in terms of longevity.
“He set the standard for that,” Curry said to ESPN’s Nick Friedell before Friday night game. “Let’s keep it real – what is he, in his 18th year? Nine straight Finals, all the things that he’s accomplished.
“You have a vision of sustaining your prime for as long as you can, kind of reimagining what that looks like. So, you know the work that goes into it, the intentionality, especially in the offseasons, especially how you take care of your body, your mind. Balance on court, off court,”
We will see how well LeBron James does next season. It is quite possible that he will have another elite individual season, just as he did this past season. James has continuously defied Father Time, and it is unlikely that we will see him decline heavily as soon as next year.
As of right now, though, LeBron James seems focused on enjoying the offseason. Let’s hope that he comes back refreshed and ready to lead the Los Angeles Lakers back to the playoffs.
