Rudy Gobert will rue missing a simple layup for a long time, especially after all the hard work he did to get to the basket.

The Minnesota Timberwolves had a solid outing notching up 25 points and 21 rebounds, but he had a moment where he lamented missing an easy chance to nail two points. It didn’t cost them, though, as the side registered a 128-115 win over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Gobert had a resounding cheer from the fans when he went coast-to-coast into the fourth quarter, deceiving Clippers’ Moses Brown with a magnificent jump fake, only to miss the simple layup and rebound.

Gobert was ably assisted by D’Angelo Russell (25 points), along with Jaden McDaniels (18 points), to register their third win in a row.

Rudy Gobert Opens Up On The Missed Layup: “I Should Have Dunked It”

It was a layup Rudy Gobert would nail all day long, and it was one of those moments where all his efforts went in vain and saw him absolutely frustrated.

Speaking to the media in the aftermath of the win, Gobert felt he should have just dunked it. Per Wolves insider Dane Moore:

“I was having fun. But I’m gonna think about it all night. I should have dunked it.”

His season-high performance comes as a relief for the center after reports of the team miffed with his turnovers did the rounds. According to NBA insider Brian Windhorst, the Timberwolves were reportedly upset with the one chink in his armor.

“They knew that Gobert had limitations. They didn’t expect him to walk in and everything would be perfect. They knew it was going to take some time. But he has really frustrated the fans there and frustrated his teammates because earlier this season, he kept having turnovers. They would run plays, pick-and-rolls for him and the ball would go through his hands. I don’t have the number in front of me to tell you how many of those turnovers he had, but for the Wolves and their fans, it felt like 100. There was some frustration there and then his defense was good, but wasn’t game-changing like they thought.”

All said, Minnesota has been on a four-game winning streak now and will look to extend it when they take on the Houston Rockets next.
