- Stephen Curry was asked by some young players to do a windmill dunk
- After he missed his attempt, Curry splashed in a three-point shot
- Stephen Curry instantly reminded the youngsters of what makes him truly great
Stephen Curry may be an incredible three-point shooter, but there are things even he can’t do. When asked by some young players at the gym to perform a windmill dunk, Curry couldn’t get high enough and the ball hit the rim. And despite his miss, Steph reminded those watching of his greatness almost instantly.
“Just to let you know, that’s why,” Curry said after hitting a three-point shot after missing the dunk. “That’s why I stay out here.”
"Do what you know that's why. That's why I stay out here."

Stephen Curry has dunked in the past, but the 35-year-old never had elite hops or anything like that. A windmill dunk is hard to pull off, and Curry is only 6’2″, which means it’s alright for him to miss it. But it’s very unlikely that he would miss a three-point shot, and that’s exactly what he showed the young kids that were watching.
While the highlight is cool, and the interaction between them was a light-hearted talk in the gym, Stephen Curry taught the young hoopers a valuable lesson. In the NBA, it’s about maximizing what a player does best and making the most of it, whether a player can do everything doesn’t quite matter as much.
Stephen Curry Has Dunked For Camp Recruits In The Past
Just because it may not be his most impressive ability does not mean that Stephen Curry cannot dunk. In 2022, during a training camp, Curry got young campers hyped up by dunking the ball in a similar situation. That he can’t quite do a windmill is not much of a slight against Stephen Curry, considering that other NBA stars also can’t do the sort of things that he does.
Stephen Curry is going into the new season with another legendary teammate, Chris Paul. The two threw down dunks off of each other’s lobs during the 2022 NBA All-Star Game, and perhaps a repeat of this will be seen on the court during the 2023-24 season. It’s unlikely to be a windmill, but there will be a lot of made three-point shots next season too.
