Spencer Dinwiddie was considered to be an elite scoring option as a role player in the NBA after a stellar 2019-20 NBA season with the Brooklyn Nets. Dinwiddie averaged 20.6 points and over 6 assists per game in the 64 games that he played in for the Nets, and was looked at as someone who would be a huge signing for any team in free agency despite missing a lot of last season with a partial tear to his ACL.
Dinwiddie ended up at Washington after a sign and trade to start the 2021-22 season but things haven’t quite worked out for him there. The player himself revealed that when he tried to be a leader within the roster early on the season, his teammates weren’t welcoming about it. The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor has given insight into the reason for that situation in an article about the Clippers potentially getting a ball-handler (via NBA Central).

Dinwiddie’s injury may have seen his level drop quite a bit but if the reports are true, the Wizards are unlikely to find good value in any trade for him. On his day, he can get a bucket seemingly at will, a very underrated quality in the league, but it seems that Spencer is no longer on the level that he was at during his impressive stint with the Nets.
Dinwiddie has averaged a poor 13.2 points per game, shooting it at a horrible efficiency rate of 40% from the field and 31% from the three-point range. Recovering from an ACL injury is always tough but at the age of 28, Dinwiddie should be able to return to his best if he truly wants to. In any case, it doesn’t look like the move to Washington has been the answer for him, so he will be hoping a team takes a chance on him despite reports like this one.
