Victor Wembanyama already has some competition even before he’s suiting up for the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA.

As for who it might be, it’s a young fan who’s probably knee-high to Wembanyama. And for what it’s worth, he made his point pretty clear that he could dunk over the Frenchman.

Young fan: “I can slam dunk over somebody… and it’s you.”

Wemby: “Over me? … I’ll see you in the NBA.”

Wemby’s interaction with a fan.

The clip ends with the two high-fiving, and at best, it makes for a wholesome moment between the player regarded as the future superstar and a fan who had the incredible opportunity to meet Wembanyama.

This comes as a refreshing change considering all that has been said and written about the center. While all eyes are on how he fares on the floor, it’s nice to see he’s pretty much a gentle giant with the younger fan club.

Gregg Popovich Wants Victor Wembanyama To Be Himself

The San Antonio Spurs coach, Gregg Popovich had some sage advice for Victor Wembanyama ahead of his maiden NBA stint, and that was to be himself.

“It is about expectations. It’s about not skipping steps, which I say often. It’s A to B to C to D in a variety of levels,” said Coach Pop. “Because of all the hype, he’ll have a target on his back… so more than Os and Xs to begin with, we’ll be most interested in setting a framework and an environment where he’s comfortable, where he can be Victor. He’s not LeBron or Tim or Kobe or anybody else, he’s Victor and that’s who we want him to be.”

Wembanyama has been constantly compared to LeBron James and has been hailed as one of those generational superstars. Only time will tell if he indeed ends up living up to the hype, but he would do well to use his coach’s advice.
