- Luka Doncic is stoked to be playing for Slovenia in the 2023 FIBA World Cup
- He looked leaner and fitter leading up to the tournament
- Doncic and Slovenia are placed in Group F in the marquee competition
Luka Doncic is raring to hit the court in the upcoming FIBA 2023 World Cup, and he took to Instagram to share his excitement.
The Dallas Mavericks star will headline the roster for Slovenia in the marquee tournament and he shared images of his preparation for the tournament on Instagram.
The images show an excited, lean, and mean-looking Doncic. He had a simple, yet ominous caption that will surely get fans excited.
“We back.”
Slovenia is placed in Group F of the FIBA World Cup along with Georgia, Venezuela, and Cape Verde. Doncic and Slovenia head into the tournament as favorites to win this group.
Despite the Mavericks’ dismal 2022-23 campaign, Doncic was in prime, averaging 32.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 8.0 assists. Should he carry that stellar form to the FIBA WC, Slovenia will be well on their way to making a deeper run.
Luka Doncic Has Heard The Mavericks’ Condition
Dallas asked, and Doncic answered. Previously, reports of the Mavericks wanting their superstar to lose weight did the rounds, and going by the aforementioned post, not only has the PG lost weight, but he also looks fitter, which when sustainable is great news for the Mavericks.
Tim Cato of The Athletic revealed that Dallas had spoken to the 24-year-old about lowering the preferred weight at which he plays for better results throughout 82 games. “The Mavericks’ key figures have talked to Dončić about decreasing his preferred playing weight this summer.”
With a grueling season, Doncic and Kyrie Irving will be required to take care of their bodies as the entire roster construction this offseason has revolved around the two guards. For now, the focus is on Doncic, who has been training hard for the FIBA World Cup.
Only time will tell how he fares at FIBA and the season that follows a couple of months later.
