Westbrook Thinks Only ‘Four Or Five’ Current Players Should Have Their Own Signature Shoe

Russell Westbrook is one of the best players in the world. As one of the faces of the Houston Rockets, he is nothing short of a star in this league.

And, according to him, only guys on his level are deserving of an honorary signature shoe.

“You can’t just be one-dimensional. I didn’t deserve a signature shoe for a while, because I didn’t earn it. But I’ve earned my way, and now I have my own. I’m realistic when it pertains to that. Some players just get a shoe. Like James said: You gotta have the package. The fan base. Your play gotta speak, obviously. Outside of basketball, whatever else you got going on. You gotta be ‘that guy’ to be able to have a shoe. Because nowadays everybody got a shoe.”

By his standards, only guys who are the best on their team deserve to have their own shoes. It’s an honor that should, according to Russ, be reserved for the best of the best.

Often, shoe companies use anyone with a decent jumper and likable personality to market their own shoe brand. And while one could make the case they, too, are deserving, Russ doesn’t want to hear any of that.
