• Zion hasn’t played basketball since January 2023

Zion Williamson is looking to shake off a pretty rough offseason off the court, as he saw his name be dragged through the mud due to past relationships and a continuing inability to stay healthy.

Thankfully, Zion is entering the 2023/24 season in good health and was in a positive mood during media day. He was asked what he worked on in the summer, and he had a simple but hilarious answer.

“I worked on being unguardable.”

Zion is one of the hardest players to stop in the NBA when he’s healthy. The 2019 No. 1 overall pick was a generational talent when he was drafted, with that status being backed up whenever we do see him play. Unfortunately, Williamson has played just 114 games so far in a four-year NBA career.

The two-time All-Star is holding the Pelicans back. This season will be crucial for Zion to rehabilitate his on and off-court image by dominating for the Pelicans and leading them to a playoff series win.

Zion Williamson’s Health And Motivation Under Question

With everything that’s happened around Williamson since he was drafted, it’s hard to know what exactly we can expect from him. We know he will be unstoppable whenever he’s playing. Despite his limited NBA experience, Williamson has pretty incredible career averages of 25.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.6 assists on 60.5% shooting from the field.

His teammates are waiting for him to be healthy. The Pelicans were among the best teams in the West when he was actively playing, falling off a cliff after he got hurt and the season went on. As a result, Shams Charania reported that the Pelicans’ roster of players is essentially just waiting to see how healthy Zion can be throughout a season to determine if they can contend.

“Teammates, they want to see it to believe it. They want to see Zion Williamson come in, the shape he’s in. They want to see if he’s ready to go. They know if he plays 60, 70 games, this is a team that can compete.”

Williamson was looking solid at media day and has reportedly had a very intensive offseason. Even Pelicans GM David Griffin has said he hasn’t seen Zion work this hard in previous summers, increasing hope that this may be the year where Zion can show over 82 games that he’s a star in the NBA.
