Fadeaway World

The Los Angeles Lakers totally beat the odds last Tuesday and managed to climb all the way up to the 4th spot during the NBA Draft lottery, and their future now looks quite brighter than it did a couple of weeks ago.

Now that the team has also secured Frank Vogel and Jason Kidd as a part of the coaching staff, it looks like the Lakers are finally slowly coming together after a disappointing season where they couldn’t even make the playoffs.

That 4th overall pick holds a lot of value and while this Draft isn’t as stacked with talent as the ones from the previous year, they could still use it to get a great role player like De’Andre Hunter or Jarrett Culver.

However, this pick would be even more valuable as a trade asset for a rebuilding team that could afford to take things slowly and develop young talents, while they bring proven players that are ready to contribute right away while LeBron James is in town. But, what could they get in return for their pick? Let’s take a look.

Note: We’ll exclude the Anthony Davis trade, as the Pelicans reportedly still aren’t interested in trading him to the Lakers.

5. Aaron Gordon

Trade Package: Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, 4th Pick

The Orlando Magic have been looking for their point guard of the future for quite some long time so Lonzo Ball would have as many minutes as he could handle there, something that’d definitely make LaVar Ball happy.

Also, Orlando could continue with its never-ending rebuilding process with the 4th overall pick and Josh Hart, while Gordon would thrive in the pick and roll playing next to LeBron. There’s a logjam at the frontcourt spots in Orlando so it would be a win-win situation.

4. Andre Drummond

Trade Package: Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, 4th Pick

The Detroit Pistons made a huge gamble when they traded for Blake Griffin a season and a half ago, and so far, it’s pretty clear that it hasn’t paid off and spacing is going to be a major issue for as long as they play him next to Andre Drummond.

The Lakers have been craving a dominant rebounder and a rim-running big man for years, and the Pistons desperately need a starting point guard, especially with Reggie Jackson set to become a free agent in 2020.

3. Bradley Beal

Trade Package: Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, 4th Pick

The Washington Wizards are now stuck in basketball hell due to John Wall’s absurd contract, and with him set to miss the entire 2019-20 season, they might as well start planning ahead to the future.

Bradley Beal would be great next to LeBron for his ability to shoot off the dribble, and his sharpshooting skills. The Wizards could wait until Ingram is fully healed and would find a potential marquee player in the Draft.

2. Karl-Anthony Towns

Trade Package: Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, 4th Pick, Future Picks

With Jimmy Butler out of town, the Minnesota Timberwolves aren’t going to make the playoff again in quite some time, so they might as well stop wasting Karl-Anthony Towns talents while they still can.

Towns could be LeBron’s next Kevin Love, just way younger and more skilled in the offensive end. Minnesota would find a young core for the future, and probably move on from Andrew Wiggins.

1. Ben Simmons

Trade Package: Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, 4th Pick

According to several reports, the Philadelphia 76ers are going to explore the possibility of trading away Ben Simmons in the summer and considering he’s managed by the same agent than LeBron James, the Lakers are a possible destination.

The Sixers could slide Lonzo Ball in the same role as Ben Simmons, while Brandon Ingram and the 4th pick could help them fill the voids in their rotation with JJ Redick, Jimmy Butler and Tobias Harris likely to leave in the summer.

This would be a very interesting lineup because Lonzo Ball is a perfect fit next to Joel Embiid, and Brandon Ingram would have more ISO plays than he had in Los Angeles.

Philadelphia with Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, 4th pick and Joel Embiid are stronger than Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. Make it happen.
