Tim Duncan is largely recognized as one of the greatest big men to ever play the game. While Duncan wasn’t a guy who stuffed the highlight reel, he was successful in what he did — winning 5 NBA Championships and 2 MVPs in 18 seasons.

On ESPN’s Morning Show “Get Up!” former player Richard Jefferson joked that all of his success was a product of his environment.

“Tim Duncan has been carried by people his entire life,” Jefferson said. “He’s a waste of a player, waste of time, he’s the reason the Spurs are struggling this year.”

It sounds as if Jefferson and Duncan are good friends, which is the only reason why RJ even says this. He, more than anyone, understands Duncan’s worth.

Of course, there are those who take the words as truth. It is true that Duncan was fortunate enough to be surrounded by brilliant minds and talented players throughout his career — but what All-Time great hasn’t?

Kobe, LeBron, Shaq, and even MJ played with some pretty stacked rosters in their day. In fact, it might be Duncan who kept everything together. When he retired in 2016, the team was never the same.

He averaged 19 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 3 assists on 50% shooting with the Spurs.
