Hawks power forward John Collins has emerged as a major centerpiece for the Atlanta Hawks, promoting the team to offer him a lucrative $90 million extension this past offseason.
And while many thought the offer was already too high, Collins rejected it, with reports indicating he’s looking for more.
John Collins turned down a $90M extension from the Hawks, per Brian Windhorst
"I heard he was offered an excess of $90 million…But John Collins was seeking something at or near the max and he stuck to his guns."

Collins, 23, showed a lot of promise last season with the Hawks, averaging 21.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game on 58% shooting. He was their most consistent option behind Trae Young and has shown a lot of growth over his three-year career.
But how far can Collins and Young lead Atlanta? With almost no team success to show for their play, it’s obviously arguable to say that either player deserves a max contract. In Collins’ case, he’s asking for the max despite having no All-Star or All-NBA appearances. Fans just aren’t convinced he’s worth what he’s asking for…
How you want a 100mil contract with no all star appearances nor regular season awards lol ok bro

Collins is a glorified starter.
He’s a slightly above average offensive player with great athleticism. However, none of that translates to his defense, where he remains mediocre. He’s not worth more than $90 million (for an extension).

Needless to say, Collins’ play this season will ultimately determine what his next contract will be like. It’ll be on him to earn that max contract he is sure he deserves.
