Damian Lillard has never been the most mediatic player of all but the Portland Trail Blazers star is always making the headlines. Right now the Blazers are one of the best teams in the Western Conference and Dame is the main reason why they’re winning game after game.

In recent days, more people have made the case for him to be considered an MVP candidate this season and he’s backing those claims with his recent performances. The point guard is already making big plays for his team, who is suffering the absence of CJ McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic, two of the most important pieces for the Blazers this campaign.

Well, Dame DOLLA hasn’t backed down and he’s taking his team to the next level. Dame is a synonym with clutch and his recent games have been a confirmation of that. The 30-year-old has been on a tear recently and his clutch numbers are the best way to describe that. He’s currently leading 5 clutch stats in the NBA, becoming one of the hottest players in the association at this moment.

Lillard in the clutch (5-point games in the last 5 minutes) this season:

⌚️ 82 PTS (1st)
⌚️ 63.2 FG% (1st, min 15 att)
⌚️ 58.8 3P% (1st, min 15 att)
⌚️ 100 FT%
⌚️ 12-3 record (1st)

That has been reflected on his team’s record, too. The Blazers played six games in the last eight days and they won them all, thanks to Dame, all the effort the rest of the team put and the clutchness of their star. In the process, they beat the Philadelphia 76ers, Dallas Mavericks and more recently, the New Orleans Pelicans.

Since the 2012/13 NBA campaign, he’s made the most game-tying/go-ahead field goals, surpassing players like Russell Westbrook and DeMar DeRozan.

This guy is the real deal and every season, when people think he’s going to slow down, he always proves them wrong. This campaign hasn’t been the exception and the numbers confirm that Damian is having a very good term and he should be considered an MVP candidate at this point.
